What do i have to read? I started a history of philosophy to have a global background of the ideas

I love metaphysics, phil. of mind, phil. of science, epistemology

I don't like aesthetics, politics, phil. of mathematics

Construct a system of thought.

Focus on the establishment of what is understandable through serious reflective thought.

Explicate what observations are then attainable.

Integrate the potential value set of the individual through what was previously concluded.

But every time I push my reason to its limits it collapses on itself in a kind of radical skepticism, and I am left with the immediate certainty of Being-Consciousness... Damn Munchhausen's trilemma!

Metaphysics and epistemology are interesting but ultimately useless and incapable of providing any real answers. Getting lost in those subjects makes you obsessed with chasing something that doesn't exist.
You need a leap of faith to break out ot it, and I don't necessarily mean towards theism. Or you can choose to own it but it's more difficult.

You're going to have to read a lot of philosophy. That's it, really. You should eventually be able to construct some worldview of your own.

Not him but it's the opposite, no matter what I read I still retain unshakable faith that my beliefs are true
Is philosophy lost on me?

>> No.17746952

>>17746939
probably. you do need unshakable belief in your own ability to reason and identify contradictions and create new schemas, verging on arrogance really, but if you can't question your own beliefs you will just retain whatever was taught to you as a child.

first step is to stop thinking that philosophical theories can be put into neatly divided self sufficient categories like metaphysics, epistemology, aesthetics without any overlap

next step is to read the historical greats and don't make the mistake of only reading modern philosophy, and make sure to read outside of your comfort zone

then figure out natural contours of your tastes, go where your interests lead you, develop ad infinitum

you're going to be a midwit for a while, its fine

a missionary in scorcese's movie silence compares japan to a bog, because christianity can't take root in it. that's what philosophy is, nothing really grows there, and what you're studying are the thoughts of people waist deep in the bog and the corpses of the bog.
