This book contains so many aphoristic maxims and reassuring tenets but I am such a brainlet that I cannot memorise everything Aurelius says. For example, his musing that one should always be able to retreat inwards to his fundamental rationality and divinity - how should I apply that to real life situations? To reserve my judgement and reaction in favour of rationality? To live presently?

The senate provided a mechanism through which a number of different voices from every stratum of Roman society could be articulated, from the plebeian to the patrician. If that is not the most effective form of democracy ever seen in antiquity apart from the Greeks themselves then I don’t know what is. Wait, you've said this before and explained your posture about why. I cared about Stoicism back then. Why do you consider Epicureanism as a decent philosophy of life? It seems that it doesn't go beyond mildly comfy, at least in text. I believe Epicureans had their orgies. Other than that, it's just mild comfyness and nothing more, but I might be wrong.
I guess to each their own nature. It just needs more romantic bullshit to it.
