Vague terms that don’t actually mean anything. What you’re really asking is “is this mutually agreed to have a certain degree of subcultural snobbery”. The answer to that when it comes to comic books and manga is “probably not.”

this question makes you seem like an insufferable pseud but watchmen is pretty damn good. uzumaki by junji ito is also amazing but its more visual.

Berserk, Evangelion, Vagabond, Akira, Blame!, Ergo proxy, Ghost in the Shell
If you like newer stuff Chainsaw man, One Punch Man, mob psycho. all of them can be read in a fun way "wow this is fricking awesome" and in a way reflecting on what went into creating them, looking at the art, the concepts, and most importantly, the attitude of the author and the generation--but this is probably pretty meta and pseud esque. I just like reading them because cool and it's pretty good media.
Attack on Titan is also decent. Girls Last Tour too.
I would generally recommend that you just read all the classics. Dragon Ball is also a good manga, but of course not that deep on a surface level, maybe deep if you see it as the story of son goku and the struggle to want or smth like that. Read the stuff you like, good manga and movies inspire me to write and give me a good feeling which is cool. Not everything has to be deep, lit, etc. What is deep even, what is lit, as >>17858621 anon, pointed out. It's all just labels and nothing else.

In terms of comics, maybe that one about the jewish mice or v for vendetta. I don't really know about comics because American media is such a flood I've drowned in all my life, I can't stand the language anymore.

Watchmen and From Hell are both good. Tank Girl also has its moments. I don't really know much about comics, though.

plenty, although much like videogames the medium tends to insist on a certain anti-high brow attitude of refusing to take itself seriously.
manga obviously has many great works and many bad ones as well. some works that (in my opinion) cross the treshold are Vagabond, Blame!, and Nausicaa.
American comics are mostly pulp but there is a pretty good indie scene with some great works, and despite how memed it is i genuinely think Watchmen is great.
if you speak French the bande dessinée (often shortened to BD) scene has some incredible stuff as well, and is often more willing to present itself as high brow.

Providence is the Ultimate Lovecraftian story. Fairly recent too.
Mind MGMT is the most /lit/ comic of the decade
Morrison's The Invisibles
Cerebus

In terms of Manga, Tezuka's phoenix and buddha, and Nausicaa are pretty /lit/. Desu I don't think mango is as /lit/ as some people would like to believe, if Berserk and Ergo Proxy are making the cut then something is wrong.

I read an old comic book adaptation of The Hobbit back when I was young. I read it all the time. It was comfy and very /lit/
