I read 2000 WPM twice at 46% retention

>> No.17985769

My WPM is probably pretty low. Doesn't mean I don't enjoy literature or even difficult literature.

I do like 150wpm and have around 70% retention.

How in the hell do you even get 1000?

Wow I read this fiction book and I remember all that was said. Amazing! I'm so genius. Look smarterinoooss haha I'm so smart. Hegel who? No I don't read philosophy, that's too hard. I can't retain it all at my read speed, and you know I never re-read! I have photographic memory so I won't ever have to look something up!

It's mostly working memory. I did some tests a while ago and I had a reading speed of around 900-1050 at the >85% comprehension. I'm also a good musician and English isn't my native language.
To visualize it here, words are not read as much as they form a part of a picture which is the text which I break down to concepts that I know without even verbalizing them.

It's all intuitive and you need to structure your learning around that. It also helps with reflecting and relating texts to each other and just getting good ideas. Systematic knowledge learning is mostly taught and generally what people would do, while is this more intuitive cogniton.
Now, if you are more the latter then you'll have issues translating your thoughts, which seem in a sense self evident, to the former language of knowledge, of verbalized systems and abstractions. Intuitive thinking is abstraction per se because it is actually neither visual nor verbal, it is felt on a symbolic level.

Hope that gave you some insight. People are just different.
