OK, /lit/. I have a grammar question and I figured that you guys could answer it.

Do you always use "an" in front of words beginning with vowels, even when it sounds really fucking weird and incorrect? For instance, "an utopia," "an U-boat," etc. I can understand with words/phrases such as, "an ugly dog," or "an underwater house," but U words that sound like "you" at the beginning just sound wrong.

I've always used "an" based on sound not spelling. I wouldn't put it in front of Utopia because the word starts with a Y-sound.

This is the accepted understanding of the rule. You are in good hands.

Anytime. The new /lit/ is here for you.

The thing to understand is that the alphabet is not phonetic so you cannot always tell whether a word starts with a vowel or a consonant by looking at the spelling.

"utopia" and "U-boat" both start with a consonant.

Yep, if the succeding word starts with a vowel sound.

Another example is 'hour'. But writing it gets messy with 'herb' and 'historic', depending on your pronunciation.

I always use 'an' and never use 'a.'

Even when the word starts with an consonant.

Oooh, look at me. I'm a new tripfag. But I'm using an unsecure tripcode and not a secure tripcode which uses two ## instead of one.

I can't wait for someone impersonate me!

I seriously wrote this like 30 minutes ago, and had to fix one fucking typo, took so long.

I am in no danger of someone impersonating me. Why should someone be so foolish?

>> No.1798661

>>1798650
Using an unsecure non-custom tripcode is just stupid.
This one took 30 secs to make.

If you aren't going to make/use a custom, then you should use a secure one.

I am new to tripcoding but I am here to replace some guy named Stagolee who apparently was greatly missed on this board. I like /lit/ and I read a terrible lot. I am here for anyone who needs help and I shall request help and admit my imperfections whenever required in an unpretentious way.

How did you get stradbWTGA as the line preceding your name though?

or you can do both if you want, like this.
You can normally post with the unsecure and then add the secure on when needed. or just post with the secure.
