Are there any books written for artists about the role of art, how to live, how to create art, the mindset of an artist etc. It seems like it could be an interesting book if it exists.

Opinions aren't formed directly through a book.

Opinions should/are be formed after reading colliding ideas-after synthesizing, books are a highway to understand the multiple opinions on a topic. Read before you think, think before you post.

This is exactly what I mean. Do you have anymore like this? I tried to read this a while ago and it was a little too dense in parts for me but I'll try it again.

Tough one, I haven’t read anything else quite like it.

Another one I enjoyed for similar reasons is The Meaning of Culture by John Cowper Powys. Not so much about creating art, but certainly about living a life of art and passion.

There are literally hundreds of classic books on this subject, or which at least touch upon this subject.

Rilke's Letters to a Young Poet is a good example.

This one came to mind almost immediately, esp. knowing the huge level of experience which Byrne has had to bring him to his conclusions about the nature & role of music. It's quite engaging for the most part, but did feel pretty drawn out for a work of experimental nonfiction at 352 pages long. Still, he's a very articulate writer, unlike a very big percentage of famous musicians who've tried doing it.
