Preferably a how to guide and some general tips for first time drivers. I just started learning and I'd like to get the hang of the basic mechanics of operating a car, safety tips, taking care of a vehicle, etc. I don't remember as much from watching vids so I think a good book would be much better. Thanks anons.

Just drive more. You'll pick it up naturally.

If you are American look up your state's DMV guidebook. You will then know way more than 95% of drivers. If not, your country should put out an official guide of some sort.
I know nothing about maintenance though, sorry.

This also there are sites to test your knowledge. Practice in mall parking lots when theres no one there.

Not only this but also look up your state’s traffic code. The handbook from the DMV isn’t the same as the rules in the actual statutes and so cops are able to pull you over and ticket you for infractions based on the code while you only know what drivers Ed taught you.

I’d also get one of those mechanics books for whatever vehicle you’re going to drive. They are super helpful when doing minor repairs on your own. I can’t remember what they are called.

As far as insurance I’d suggest you look into AAA, decent number of tows and roadside as well as travel guides and such that are relics from a bygone era, very /lit/.

I haven’t been on /o/ in a while, but I’d assume they have a megaupload somewhere with books on repairs and tools and driving.

Pnin has really fun insights on cars, well a chapter does and it's not going to help you drive. But Pnin is cool.
