if you try to go straight into philosophy after having read nothing for over 5 years, you're going to hate it, give up, and read nothing at all. start by reading light and enjoyable fiction (i.e. vonnegut/steinbeck) and work your way up to someone like dosto. after 10-15 fiction novels you should have some semblance of an attention span to begin tackling proper philosophical works. as always, start with the greeks.

Stick to the Greeks and then some of the moderns that talk about more every-day stuff. Other than that, honestly you just gotta get out into life and ask people these questions yourself. One thing to keep in mind is to not be swayed by anyone until you feel like you can see the full picture. I don't know how many times my own worldview has been changed by a new book or philosopher. Don't listen to the people saying start woth the Greeks. More often than not they haven't read them and are just spreading a meme. And if you do you might just end up getting bored and giving up. There is truth behind he meme though, the Greeks are foundational to Western philosophy. So I'd suggest you read A New History of Western Philosophy by Anthony Kenny. It's a good overview of Western Philosophy and gives you an idea of the breadth and development of western philosophical thought from the Greeks to the present day. But this is just a starting point you can use to explore ideas and thinkers that you're interested in and you can find further sources for reading right there in the book. You'll also have context for the ideas which is just as important as the ideas themselves.

Nature is extremely cruel and unforgiving, this challenge demands that any creature in the animal kingdom make hard choices for not just their survival and well-being, but of their flock and even species as well. Equate this concept to human beings and you get the same results, albeit varied in what societal struggle they undergo. This ultimately will require the suppression of owns own urges and desires to ensure that they survive and thrive in the nuances of what their "greater good" is, which is, as I listed earlier:
>Achieving an ideal
>Establishing a foothold financially
>Starting a family
>Etc

-Like this: If the 'is' is said of the foot, which is and the foot of the beinghood that's foot, but the beinghood and the foot are not the same, and rather are said of that which we hypothesized - namely, of the foot which is -, then isn't it necessary that a foot which is be itself the whole, and that the foot and the being come into being as pieces of this? Then will we call each of these two pieces only a piece, or must the piece itself be called a piece of the whole? It's a whole, whatever is 'foot', and has a piece. What then? Does each of these pieces of the foot that is, the foot and being, lack something? Does the foot lack the piece that's the being or being the piece that's the foot? And so, again, each of the pieces holds fast to the foot and being, and the very least piece comes to consist, in turn, of two pieces, and according to this post, it is always this way.

Enjoy yourself. Some concepts are a little hard to grasp at first so there's no shame in re-reading sections and sentences. If things still don't make sense, push on and a switch might flick that makes things you've read make sense retroactively. And never feel shame if you don't understand things at first. It's part of the learning process and you're honestly doing more learning than a good 80% of this board

I used to sing a song about reading a book (you know which), does that count?

Quality of booktuber threads corresponds to the quality of booktubers themselves.

Start by getting used to reading of books. Usually science fiction is the best genre for that, but you've really got to find something you enjoy a lot and make reading your own. Usually from small to larger books is the best, but your enjoyment is fundamental. All those
>/lit/starter kit
or whatever are highly reccomended

Some will say you must read
>How to Read a Book, by Mortimer Adler
I disagree. First, because all you need you need to know is summarised on the wiki, for free, even more so on the Portuguese one. Second because he's one of (((them))).
Then start reading philosophy books. Chronologically.
Start with the Greeks (some big memester is going to tell your to start with the Phoenicians, Mesopotamians or even Egyptians. If you really want that, you oughtn't read more than one book. The Epic of Gilgamesh is pretty cool). Read, once again, from short to long, from easy to hard, from what you enjoy the most for whatever you can bare (never what you are not enjoying at all). First the Pre-Socratics (to know were they are coming from) and then Socrates, Plato and Aristotle. Also: you must read at least one of their historians, and by that I mean you must read Herodotus and Homer, in between.

tl;dr:
>start with the greeks
images are right

Then just repeat with the same mindset with the Romans and Europa during it's Catholic era, focusing on everything "Saint".

>again, whatever is on the related image guide.

If you read all this you might read the Bible, if you haven't already because you became a Christian . If you didn't, you'll probably enjoy whatever comes after.

It's basically a rebellious teen phase, full of angst and wordplay, one trying to top the other in by writing hard and and by being the unintelligible possible.

All but Camus. Camus is pretty cool.

It's all downhill from that.

Oh, I forgot to add: when you read whatever makes you feel in a certain way, be a strong emotion, you found it interesting or even something you can't really describe:

>1. Underline it on the book it self (buy paper-books, don't read on kindles... unless you really must to, it's better than not reading at all, but let it be the newest one that emulates paper... but, really, fuck any other one).
>2. Write it down (don't be lazy) what you underlined, in a notebook you'll always keep to yourself (so write in order it know you'll read later, never losing that notebook).
>3. THEN write how you felt (or at least try)/ what you think about that/ the thought that came to you.

You must do that at the very same day you read whatever you underlined, NOT the day after, NOT staying up late at night (sleep as a any normal person, at night, 8 hours), ESPECIALLY NEVER THE DAY AFTER HAVING SLEPT. Also, never listen to anything you understand (as in, a the language it's sang on; this is kind complicated if you are a talented musician). Most snobs recommend background low volume classical music. I like jazz.

Now, if you want to write after you read for the day or if you want to
>Underline -> Write -> Go back to reading -> repeat
It's whatever works for you in order for you to read AND understand what you read, always achieving for more.
IF "pausing' is fucking your reading, don't pause, just do it after you finished you reading session for the day.

The story of philosophy by Brian macgee might be a good choice for you, it's not too long, easy to understand, and spends 5 pages or less on all the major philosophers (with color pictures, too!)
