Fun premises but intellectually hollow. At least manga can have striking, thoughtful visuals even with a shit story, like BLAME! But with VNs, the writing is often so awfully mediocre, it becomes tedious to get through.

i reject them outright and assume people who consume them are subnormal.

>anime adaptation for light novel is announced
>fans of this particular LN on /a/ swear it's actually good and that "it's not like the others"
>anime comes out
>it's more bottom of the barrel crap and the differences with the other derivative shit are purely cosmetic
I've seen this happen like 10 times.

>> No.18817919

They are 99.9% garbage. I can think of only a handful of exceptions, and most of these were garbage for a long time before they were re-written, edited, and translated. The good news is they don’t exactly claim to be anything more than really low brow, dime store novel quality so I suppose that means they’re average given what they are supposed to be.

They can be pretty good and basically just novels.
Read NHK also Adachi and shim is a nice LN.

Why is there such a shilling towards light novels on the board this week wtf

The prose is always either dull or terrible. A lot of anime dialogue is also shit but at least it doesn't go on and on for paragraphs at a time.

I did actually enjoy NHK quite a bit, it felt like the author was conveying a lot of his genuine feelings and experiences which is vanishingly rare in weebshit.

The best light novel I ever read was kizumonogatari, and it wasn't exceptional fiction. I have read dozens of other light novels and they read like outlines of an actual novel that the author never bothered to flesh out. The truth is that the japanese are terrible writers. They are not well read. Their standards are not high.

To add to that...
>anons keep promising that the LN is actually better than the anime because they cut that one really meaningful discussion between two character or whatever
>reply with "read the LN" whenever you call out some shit
>the LN is actually completely garbage and worse than the adaption and bloated up by 100% with useless and terrible exposition
It's laughable actually. 90% of all LNs are written as anime-scripts anyways because thats the sole purpose of them, to be adapted into anime or manga to be made worthwhile with pretty pictures.

I like light novels that lewd underage girls. I would rather read a normal book on this topic but I know no real literature except lolita that would be daring enough. Also you can read them in their original language because most of them written by children for children, therefore they're easy as fuck. Study a year and you can read light novels in Japanese effortlessly.

Light novel authors are just failed manga artists. These days people get published (and get anime adaptations) by posting web novels on Japanese equiv of Wattpad. That’s how we get shit like Redo of Healer

>> No.18820900

>>18819205
Unironically, yes.
YA authors are failed artist doing what they can
LN authors are fans trying to mimic artist.
Like day and night.

LNs
>Haruhi (anime is generally better)

>Monogatari

>Koten-bu

Light Novels are the perfect way to get into Japanese reading.
Many of them have easy prose and the multi-volume structure allows you to gain reading speed without having to re-read the same book over and over.
After a couple of LN volumes, you can then move on to Japanese entertainment novels and afterward to Japanese literature while taking breaks filled with light novels.
