Sort of, but we don’t know much about them. There’s quite a lot about the Greeks that we can examine and talk about and that’s no doubt part of it, but even so, the Norse seem to be just generally overlooked in a cultural sense, in an inspirational sense, in an artistic sense. The Greeks inspire writers on culture and mythology and everything else but the Norse seem to only inspire a handful of scholars and scriptwriters needing material for TV dramas. It’s not like we don’t know anything about them or that there’s nothing to talk about. We’re there. It just doesn’t seem to captivate.

It's all one big remnant cultural bias from the Romans. The Romans were massive fans of the Greeks, so much so that they copied their culture and literature wholecloth. You can use colonialism to explain why any particular culture has more prominence than another despite them being equally rich.

It could be. Now that I think of it, I think there’s something indicative in their art which explains the fascination in either direction. The Norse were woodcarvers, but the Greeks were sculptors and architects. The Norse sought to make art from nature but the Greeks sought to turn their culture into art itself and with stone they fixed themselves into the bedrock of history. It’s no wonder then they capture the imagination of so many people today. One only has to go to modern Greece to see the remnants of what they made and it’s really no wonder in that light.

>> No.18829792

The funny part is that Greeks took their sculptures and architectural knowledge from Ionians and Egyptians emigrating to mainland Greece. Greek sculptures used be tiny because they couldn't work out how to structurally support arms and torsos at larger scales. Early Greek large statues look distinctly like Egyptian fan works because of that. Romans started the meme the Greeks were the source of sculpture, and attributed a lot of mechanical engineering to Alexandrine Greeks instead of the Egyptians they learnt it from. Kind of like how Victorians started the memes that Romans were virtuous and upright and a model civilization, and then had to destroy or hide all the artefacts that showed the Romans were obsessed with drawing dicks on everything.

It's demonstrable by the architectural record. It's been consistently documented. The Victorians wrote about it (often in Greek to protect plebs and women from its knowledge) and they're the ones who developed secret museums for all the goat fucking statues and dick sculptures they found. It's not an sjw thing in the way you expect- the reason why Latin could be taught to middle class girls while only gentlemen could learn Greek or access those collections is because of the modern view of the cultures: the Romans were thought to be the pg13 suitable for pleb version, which has some validity from Roman times with original the pleb/patrician dichotomy, but a lot of the reason why they believed that was because things hadn't been uncovered yet. Roman Latin speaking plebs would have watched a lot of sex comedies for example at the theatre, and we have records to prove that, but we have never found any Roman sex comedy script. Without the script you could assume they didn't do those things, but when modern scholars started to discover things like accounts of what plebs watch, or accounts for theatres, and graffiti, there started to be a scramble to keep the myth of them being pure.

Yeah, but where I take issue is this spectrum such things start to move across when they go from “this happened” to “this was common” to “this was common and accepted” to “this was uplifted”. It’s the same sort of thing you see with the Greeks and homosexuality and I personally find it disingenuous.

The Greeks and homosexuality thing is kind of a modern meme. Homosexuality existed for the Greeks, but it's greatly distorted by the current opinion (good and consensual) being mixed with the Victorian, which was closer to but not identical to the Greek version. Part of the reason for this is because mavericks of the Victorian age started saying
>What's wrong with translating it to be plebs?
when they wanted to obscure some nuances, so that their preferred sexuality would come through. These things simply don't translate across time, as no modern homosexual is going to be in any society analogous to the Greek one. Modern scholars have always known that saying "Greeks practice homosexuality" was disingenuously vague and the audience would understand homosexuality to mean "the same things faggots do now", when that is obviously not the case to anyone who spoke Greek.
For example, Wilde made argument for the kind of pederasty (which could not involve modern gay sex, as oral or anal were strictly verboten) that was practiced, and that did not translate. But Wilde's arguments for the Greeks were disingenuous: he knew enough that he would have known a lot of what he advocated for sexuality and dress would have been considered Persian (the bad rapey kind of depraved gay) by Greeks. Both of those nuances are lost on current modern audiences, could have been seen by the highly educated in his own time but nobody else, and to the Greeks would be a kind of gay that would void your citizenship and put you in exile. No part of the modern age isn't guilty of that; the past is not just a different country, but a romanticised one which cannot assert its views, and any appeal to authority will take advantage of that.

>> No.18830235

>>18830190
Yeah, I agree. I suppose that’s the nature of history right? Heidegger suggested that the present and future don’t actually unfold out of the past but rather the past is actually a product of the present and future precisely because you’re always co-opting the past to steer where you are and where you’re going, or want to go. This is what moderns do with the Greeks et al. We call it disingenuous but perhaps we’re doing the same thing in that way.

It's inevitable. It's not just a problem of history but also a problem of translation. There's an infamous case with the temple at Delphi. For most of the modern age, if you wanted to read an account of the temple in a modern language, there was the French translation of Greek works. The French translation however, to modern eyes, suggested that there was a basement level below the priestess, which emitted fumes. But there is another way to read the French or Greek text, with a less common use of the French word, and that would mean that it fumed from a crevice or fault line on which the temple is built. The geology of the area backs this theory so far, but for about a century, the Greek account was assumed to be not just wrong but fictional, as no dig had ever uncovered a basement level.
Herodotus is frequently said to be making everything up, but several of his outlandish stories turned out to be true in living memory, simply because archeology and forensic sciences have improved.
Most people want there to be a stable truth, but any historian or scientist worth their salt will want to emphasize the gaps and room for change.

Hidden amongst the tibetan plains, lives a chinaman. This chinaman is married to an 88 year old bangladeshi woman. The chinaman was sent to tibet by his parents, as he was diagnosed with severe mental deficiency and his brothers couldn't bear watching him.
There the chinaman lives off cleaning streets. Every day he gathers rubbish off the street and places it in a bin. His boss, who is the government official of the town, tells him he will get rid of it and asks him to go home, then right after he leaves he spreads it all over the street again.

There are only 8 people living in the village.

One day the chinaman finishes early, and spends the rest of the day watching YouTube kids. He finds a funny video with cartoon astronauts in it. As the video progresses, a lot of funny sounds and flashing images appear. The chinaman doesn't know english, however he cannot stop laughing at it. Once the sun is high and right in the middle of the sky, the clock hits 2;00 am, and the chinaman goes straight to his home to show the video to his wife.
His wife becomes surprised at seeing the man who she forgot the name of smile, and asks him why is he happy. The chinaman shows her the video, and can't stop smiling with expectation of the funny astronaut to appear and make the sound.
The sound comes,
"AMONGOS"

his wife pulls back, and drops dead

There is only one thing that is necessary in a man's life: violence. A man must violently squeal like a pig as he is born, and struggle against the cold, cold world which he will become accustomed to. Man must be violent, whether in speech, action, or thought.

Man may die peacefully, but he must live through violence. Now, I am not talking of the violence where a man bludgeons and kills another, like so many have indulged in for time immemorial. What I am saying is that he must carry violence of a different sort, the violence of spirit. Not surliness, not arrogance, but a clear push towards what he needs. A man without it, without the chaotic and violent energy of a falling star is not a man, but a eunuch, a castrato. He is a force, a dynamo of energy! He is a blade between the ribs, a bolt of lightning, a fury of light! Whether he applies his violence, his energy, through a pen, a piston, or a pistol, is no issue. Each is an extension of his energy, the spirit of a star. Through each one, there is the energy to destroy or create, maim or make.

Now where is that chaotic, violent energy in this world? Is it as buried as the poets of ages past? Is it chained down like an animal? Or is it disguised as a terror, something to be feared? It is all three, and by all that is holy, destroy those notions!

Bury up the poets and have them sing out their prose!

Destroy the chains of the animal, and let it become a part of you!

Destroy the mask of terror! The light will show!

Now I ask all of you, if you have deigned to read so far. Why are you not a dynamo, a star encased in flesh, as you look at life? Seize it! It is the fuel upon which you burn so brightly! Become as a blaze which sweeps continents!

I'm not a violent person, but I just came within inches of punching my housemate in the face. He's a bit of snob - he had a wealthier upbringing than me and he has all sorts of snobby opinions about food and television etc. and will often make fun of the types of things I ate as a kid, which he definitely sees as low class. It all really gets on my nerves.

Anyway I was making my dinner and he walked into the kitchen and the look of smug mockery on his face when he saw what I was eating just sent me into a rage. For a split second I just saw my fist flying into his face and I even took a few steps forward and lifted my fists to do, but I stopped myself before I did. It was a completely impulsive response. It was like when I saw his face a switch flicked and I lost control. Now obviously I didn't do anything, but I was bit alarmed by how impulsive I felt. I kind of understand how people get themselves into barfights now. I think the thing that stopped me at the last moment was that I realised in a split second that I would have to keep living with him, even after I'd punched him, which is not what I want. If he had been a stranger though, maybe I would have done it.

It's a combination of all three that dictates the price.
But most whores probably don't have pimps these days since its quite easy going independent with an agency.
Then they value themselves and if they overvalued, they get no business and need to reassess. The market in the end dictates their price if their self worth doesn't put up much of a fight.

I myself only go for mid to high end ones since an ugly hooker is unlikely to get me off anyway. I doubt rich guys go for cheap ones for the power dynamics unless they're wolf of wallstreet tier mental damage.
I imagine poor, working class, construction workers just got for cheap and available. When you're a 40 year old your own standards go down. But as a 20 year old with a career I actually want something palatable.

I’m prolonging the inevitable. In a sense we all are, always, so I shouldn’t be at all pessimistic over it in sole. Theres also something in the aire, though, a spiritual warfare accelerating, crystalized form. The collective dark night of the soul is, inarguably so, inescapably so, in new moon. The “knowing” which increases tangential a growing faith and easement of mind causes yet a heavying of heart filled to the brim with the dreading of mortals. Do I ignore, tune out? Do I, unable to bake bricks under the sun, construct castles of wood and wet mud? If the turning of the seasons was lifetimes in duration, would the ancient sages have deduced when to plant? Where would they have gotten that information?

I just came up with this one

Zachariahtus’s monolog
“Come now and gather fine people, and quant souls. Today we seek an end. An end to a vile monster. Today we shall hang this beast. The charges against him are of the violation of a girl. And a girl she was for she was not even of the age of which first has first bleed Sickening I find this foulness here. And now we seek and will achieve justice. Yet what is justice? It is that we all must do what we must. For in this ballet of life we all have a role to play. And today our friend the executioner will play his role. Unless you believe you shall play better the part. Take now my dagger thrust spear this beast in its heart. I bow to you, and you, or maybe you will young one. No? Then I bow to my friend, the executioner. But he has to play his part in the world. He must have justice also. Who here has not one coin to spare to see this villain brought to an end? No one will do the deed of justice themself yet therefore we all must pay. Take my hat and toss in what the spirit of justice compels you to. Oh for she is here, oh yes I can fe- ah, yes there, I.. I.. She is. YES. Her anima does now possess me. Can you not feel her brothers and sisters of the world? Breath deep and feel her within you. She is here. O Justice, how we honor you today. Your beauty, wisdom, and guidance make me wish to weep. Yet of all of us my friend here, he is possessed most of all. Yes. Yes, whether by ax, or rope, or fire, the craft of the executioner is greatest when the spirit of justice is present. And I believe today he may yet create his magnum opus. O, give him his due, and pay him twice what you believe to be fair. For never has such a villain there been, never has the ax of freedom be so poised to strike. O it is so, yes, to you my friend. The stage is all now yours.”

Our family dog died today. He had a stroke, and died quickly after having spend a nice day outdoors. I feel bad, obviously, and I'm going to miss him. He was a very good boy.
That being said, I feel validated in my life choices. Focus on yourself. Any person that you may grow attached to over some extended period of time will, in one way or another, leave you, either through death or through separation.
This doesn't mean that you should be alone, necessarily. But keeping your emotional distance is always good; in every interaction with another, remind yourself that this person, or animal, will die one day, and often times painfully too. Maybe this is Stoicuckery. But it makes everything a lot easier, at least for me.
I hope you anons are having a better evening than I am. Thanks for all the laughs, and the often times good book reccs over the years.

>> No.18835674

in theology there is the concept of a personal and an impersonal God. the personal God is God as we relate to Him. the impersonal God is God as He is. I've gotten stuck on focusing on the impersonal God to the point that I've lost my sense of God as a person, as someone or something you can talk to. It gets pretty weird. The impersonal God both is and is not loving. It is because all it creates is created in love, but it is not because it is incomprehensible, and love is, after all, somewhat comprehensible. I think so anyway, maybe that's what I get wrong, that love is actually not comprehensible. Either way- you can't really relate to the impersonal God by any kind of reason. I think you can sort of intuitively rest in it. But what I'm saying is: I don't really know if no longer focusing on the personal God- because it logically seems inferior- is really the way. After all God did create us to relate to Him, otherwise the personal God would not exist.

And God knows best, and I'm just some wanker, but this is on my mind. It makes me sad. God used to be my best friend.

Yeah, baby where you see limits I'm seeing opportunities. People looking to have casual weird sex aren't looking for love and normality. It defeats the point. Traps who want to pass, just like women who want to be seen as thots, put in the effort and look like your standard season trend. Rough traps and women who grow their leg hair out know what they're doing. Most of this new bullshit exists because people's sexual fetish is calling other people ignorant or incapacitated, and very few of them put in the effort to buy a nurse or military uniform to do it, so they are not going to put in the effort to give head like the life depends on it. Buy a uniform if you talk to them, trust me you'll cum buckets, really improves the experience.

I was big into it when I was younger. Now I'm just a full time wagie that writes books on his free time. My excitement comes from watching the stock market or youtube so I'm kinda a "shadow" of the fun I used to be.
Opposites attract though. Someone fun and bubbly that doesn't mind the dark is really strongly yet oddly appealing.
Bonus points if they tolerate weeb energy because I lived on a Japanese military base as a kid and I grew up with it.
Slight tangent it's kinda funny how being in Japanese culture was always either really cool or really cringe. When I came back to America I had to get speech therapy for L and R because I couldn't say them right but when Pokemon came out, Japanese was really cool, but online people use it in really dorky ways.
Like. I wanna see a Sumo match or see Kyoto shrines or maybe go to a festival. We don't get that though most of the time. Big wasted opportunity in my eyes.

The pale horse rides down the great flowing slope
his scythe rattles and rocks across his back.
A face unknown, hooded darkness conceals.
Yet still great rage sprouts from that sour darkness.

Fire from the eyes. O! Terror aborn!
Ruble for homes. Blood lust unquenchable.
A noble sits, golden stars lay across.
A smile enflamed. The banner marches.

God restless. Eternity has limits.
For a handful, many more enfallen.
The pawns have made the opening for us
now the sainted bishops embark, to serve.

Tears in a vacuum. Statue animate.
The paintings talk. The walls erupt in sound.
