Here are a couple of notes I took when listening to his latest video:

I sold 1000+ copes of my first, self-published novel, in three months just through shilling on 4chan / twitter / tumblr / reddit / tiktok. Then made enough to move to a much nicer city and based on my indie sales numbers, leveraged that into an actual publishing contract for Q1 2022.

People are genuinely interested in Waldun because he's a genuinely bad writer with a genuine fanbase. I'm not arguing with his beliefs on dystopia, but I would find a note-taking software for books to be pretty cool. I wouldn't use it because I want to read the book, but it would be funny to call out pseuds for using it. With the rise of a single type of computer-generated summary, as opposed to human-made summaries that can differ substantially in style, it was be even easier to filter pseuds.

Well you're kind of fucked then. Self-publishing is for romance, YA adventure, erotica, military sf, wuxia, litrpg, in that order. Did you pitch to SF agents? Try toning down the sf element and pitch as literary or even thriller depending on the story. Literary is more accepting of experimental. You could also try breaking into the short story market to gain some cred, but I generally think that's a colossal waste of time. But it doesn't have to be a huge time waste. For example, maybe take a scene and see if you can adapt it to a short punchy story for Daily SF. Then if you get a story published somewhere you can say that in your cover letter to the next agent you pitch to. Then they will pay closer attention to your pitch.

The good enough:
Eddington's memories of interacting with Amelia. I wonder in Waldun really has read the Iliad to Ila Rose by a forest stream. Feels genuine, or at least something he deeply wishes to be true.
The whole premise of education giving a shallow knowledge. People often do compartmentalize what they learn, be well educated but then uncritically accept completely ridiculous things.
Tom's shift to an actual human being tied to Eddington actually acknowledging him as one, rather than just the Man of History, generic L'Academie automaton.

The obviously cribbed from other dystopia:

People stopped caring about books even before they were banned

When he started to meet the rogues, the whole thing felt like it was supposed to be unrealistic. Just walk down an alley and you're suddenly out of sight of this all-seeing regime. Then it fell apart and they really were hiding out unseen within this walled surveillance state.
Why did this whole takeover happen? Archer justifies it at the end by state of world outside walled districts, but the regime started before that happened.
What exactly is the point of Archer and Ed being able to think freely? Ed seemingly had nothing to do with the others being caught.
Why was Tom able to read right away, while Ada took years and Ed's ability to read immediately was seen as bizarre?
