Here is my proposal, we will have a religion that is a merger of Neoplatonism and Buddhism. We will believe in the importance of waking people up to their spiritual nature and then working towards them achieving Henosis, that is merging with the Monad - cosmic consciousness. Obtaining Nirvanna. This will be accomplished through teaching and reading philosophy, along with various spiritual practices. We will have to create a canon. For starters, I think we will have to write a new book to include in the canon to express our points of view concisely. We will be idealists metaphysically speaking - all is mind. We will hold to virtue ethics with the virtues being wisdom, temperance, benevolence, courage, and justice. We will take a more consequentialism approach and justify our morality with intuitionism and our telos that will be Henosis.
To reach Henosis, our sacred traditions/practices will be,
- lucid dreaming and dream journaling
- meditation
- astral projection
- confirmation
- marriage
- ordination
- communal meals once a week.
We will all also, as part of trying to uphold the virtues and obtain Henosis, follow the 8 fold path.
right view
right intention
right action
right speech
right livelihood
right effort
right concentration
right mindfulness
What are your thoughts on the matter?
What books should form the canon for this religion you think?
Anyone interested in joining me to achieve Henosis?

If you had any knowledge of either subject and weren't just skimming wikipedia you wouldn't be posting your slash fiction masquerading as philosophy here. Therefore it is safe to assume you are some breed of midwit. You yourself cannot even produce in your post a single Buddhist or Platonist text that you consider influential. It is all pulled from your ass.

Slash masquerade? There are several similarities between the two especially if you compare Yogachara Buddhist ideas to Platonic ideas. Reincarnation is a similarity, the notion of realizing the illusion of duality, meditation as a means by which to achieve Henosis/Nirvanna, idealist metaphysics, etc. Sure, you can't take them both in their purest original forms and smoosh them together for they will contradict in certain areas but there is definitely enough similarities where it wouldn't be crazy to form a new religion pulling ideas from the both of them. As for works, I didn't suggest any because I thought it would leave things open to more discussion. Berkeley's Three Dialogues Between Hylas and Philonous, The Pali Canon, and The Enneads come to mind. Of course, to make it all work clearly, perhaps the best course of action would be to simply write one new text and pull ideas from all of these sources and more.

Theosophy would be very similar to what I would want to create but Theosophy has alot of quirks I would like to avoid like all of the spiritual masters teachings and its ethics were kinda a mess/all over the place. Also, why do you call this cringe? This is fun to speculate about and I do believe in these ideas.

>the entire "Pali Canon" as if it were a citable source
>can't name a single Yogacara text
Remind me why you should be considered learned in this area at all. You just want to start a thing, but no one has any reason to follow. And you don't even have anything to sell, just vague comparative or ecumenical religion. We could just as well say we should combine Islam and Zoroastrianism, after all who really cares what any of the source material says beyond the wikipedia articles?

No thanks. I need a constitutionally approved way of hating women, gays and niggers.

You act like you challenged me to cite a Yogacara text in a conversation and I failed to. I didn't realize I was failed a secret test. Also, sell? I was just talking about a hypothetical and thought it would be fun to talk about creating a religion. I am not here to sell anything just have a conversation. If I wanted to sell something I would have had a book prepped and been shilling it by now.

If you were wise, you'd know the types of responses you'd receive by posting this. This is the type of grandiose shit that only midwits conceive of.

Also, you don't just "start a religion." First you become a teacher or preacher of some esoteric knowledge, then the community that forms around the teacher creates a religion. Dumb ass. You don't even know how to do it...even though you seem to have read about religion at least superficially.
