Do any of you have writers in your family or memebers who self published. My uncle has been writing for the last year and already shit out 5 books. The editing is non existent and filled with self inserts. It reads like a boomer whobread Tom Clancy and decided this was peak literature.

I genuinely think self publishing is harming future writers and literature in general.
Back in the day writers would struggle quietly at whatever they were working on. They would submit to various publishers. Most would get rejected. Those rejected would either give up and accept wagie life or go back to the drawing board and try to get better.
Nowdays they just self publish their mediocre shit and are baffled when nobody buys it.
There is no discipline and dedication to craft anymore.

I can speak only from the horror community but there are plenty of authors doing well self-publishing, using real editors and cover artists. There are even indie companies using Amazon.

Not sure why a publishing house is your go-to for good lit, especially in current year. How many 2021 books have you read?
