Look at pictures of the leaders of Palestine, or what Lebanese people look like, or Samaritans and you’ll see this meme image looks nothing like the inhabitants of the region. Why does Christ's appearance even matter? Is it not his words, his life, and sacrifice that is of most import? Besides, any image of Christ is not Christ himself. You do not worship the image, you merely use it to concentrate your attention on true worship. So, an anachronistic image is unimportant so long as the image is useful to you. White, black, Arabic, whatever. Jesus is Jesus.

I liked Paul Verhoeven's book about him. It painted a convincing picture of a millenarian cult leader with naive proto-communist ideals. I'd need to read ten times as much to give it a proper assessment but it felt much more coherent than anything else I've been exposed to.
