My feeling is that the world wars were so brutal that Westerners lost faith in their cultural institutions, their faiths, their academia, etc. They retreated into materialist capitalism as a way to cope with the trauma of seeing their nations in ruins. In some ways this was good for the rest of the world: decolonization, for example, occurred because the Europeans lost faith in their governments and imperialist rhetoric. But bad things came out of this too, like the current nihilistic, hedonist Western zeitgeist. This trauma passed from generation to generation until today. The West's inability to move past WWII is killing it.

As a communist who considers himself to be well-read, I can't help it but say that JP is way more profound and inteligent than basically 90% of online "left". He actually goes around digging at real psychological concepts and understands how to talk to people, and not just be a retarded ape, like so many "culture" warriors on left and right that simply fell by chance to their "radical" position and then parrot the talking points. Problem is that he has some fundamental flaws in his approach, like being historically illiterate on USSR, or hell, any history for that matter, which push him to sometimes idiotic conclusions and talking points.

Anyway, Peterson is based because he understands that if you want to convince people to do X you need to formulate a reason for doing X.
