The first thing is likely because you're too influenced by media. Not in the "omg, nazis are actually good guys!" way but simply that some form of a fascists is the most common antagonist type there is, and probably most easy to write too.

The latter part seems more given, since it's always easier to root for the underdog.

You are quite right.
The only argument for reactionary thought for big bucks donors probably comes from Hans Hoppe with monarchies being the best way to cultivate libertarian state and business practices, leading to being more affluent than democracies. Obviously though in such systems, big bucks donors would be land title holders and have actual responsibility for their subjects, which they can enjoy not having in our current system.

Doesn't natural archetypal storytelling already prove that doggieism is the correct path and Catism is the evil one? look at Tom from Tom and Jerry and all other villains pretty much all are nazis.
