Middle school tier gore descriptions like in cows aren’t as disturbing to me as stories like Guts or House of Leaves where everyday comfort and familiarity are perverted. I think Guts is the most disturbing because of the context surrounding the gore. The idea of accidentally disembowling yourself while casually trying to jerk off is way more disturbing than guys fucking dead cows and playing around in shit or whatever.

I remember reading a story maybe 15-20 years ago that was about a girl trying to find someone who killed her friend over a drug deal or something that she suspected was another friend. after setting up a hidden camera ahead of time and telling a trusted friend her plan, she baited the suspect into a bondage lesbian sex situation, with maybe the intent to pillow talk her into a confession or something. the killer used the opportunity after tying protag up to confess, while duct taping her mouth closed and forcing her to OD on coke while she struggled to breathe. I cant for the life of me find the name of the book or short story collection it was in but I remember it was pretty disturbing reading the descriptions of her slowly feeling the OD kicking in and dying on a camera she knew would be found later.

You have to think about the big picture here, man. Think about the massive influxes of immigrants from more affected places to less affected places, for example. Or the die-off of species that we depend on for commerce or the ecosystem depends on. These things together would cause even more problems. Would it be "Armageddon"? I don't think so, but it would still be an absolute nightmare and would result in a lot of war, and catastrophes at the level of the individual and at the political.
