What is perceived as holy in buddhism? Any literature about it?

I've been trying to do some research on the subject as buddhism differs a lot from other religions, yet haven't found anyhting yet.

Some sources say everything's sacred for buddhist as life itself is a gift, whereas other sources cite Nirvana as what buddhist perceive as holy (eg. Nathan Söderblom).

What role do Deva play in what buddhist define as sacred?

its different from country to country, and from temple to temple. Usually they will have some local god or deva that got assimilated from the folk tradition of the local people, or they just worship the Buddha as a god or one of the Boddhisatvas. For serious practitioners the object of highest reverence will, if they make progress, eventually become the dharmakaya (~God in the absolute sense), or an emanation, or personification of it like the transcendental Buddha. Emanations of the dharmakaya are similar to platonic forms, and they are often embodied as virtues in Bodhisatvas which are then worshiped. Manjusri Bodhisatva is associated with wisdom; Avalokiteshvara with compassion etc; and there are others for love, "emptiness", charity, nirvana etc.

Depends on the tradition.

Generally in Buddhist cultures parents are highly revered, along with deities, monks, etc.

But cultural aggregations aside, the only thing that is really, truly "holy" in Buddhism i.e. the teachings of the historical Buddha Gautama is only wisdom, that is, release from suffering. That is the only value that the Buddha really held to.
