Recently read this, now moved on to the second book.

This is my first Stephen King venture, and I thought the first one wasn't so bad, although if King considers this to be his magnum opus, I would probably be disappointed by his other works.

I'm about a 10th into the second book, and though the story is interesting, plot decent, I'm beginning to feel that he can't write. To clarify: his style is as choppy and uninspiring as an insightful teenager's, or that of DH Lawrence.

Problem?

Never read Stephen Kings books but he must have very good plot and ideas? How is he so famous if he cant write?

Ideas are good, but he seems to suffer from the same problem as most easily-accessible writers do:
Their prose leaves very little to the imagination. Too often, his sentence is just so fucking stale.

I thought the series really picked up in the third book. He's not the best writer, yeah, but for me anyway, it doesn't effect my enjoyment of his books.

read the first one so far

kind of agree with you on the writing, I liked the book overall

I'm never going to start reading when I found out King plugged himself into the plot as a character.

Fuck that shit.
