I have never, ever, seen a picture of Infinite Jest in hardcover, and furthermore, I didn't even think that a hardcover would exist. I guess I thought it began life as a paperback, which obviously wouldn't be the case. I just...I just never could visualise it in hardcover. People always post paperback pics of the American cloud cover.

There's a hardback signed first edition. Only $1400

A lot of books are published initially as trade paperbacks or paperbacks; it's plausible that any given book, unless you know otherwise, never had a hardcover edition. Off topic. Just sayin.

>> No.2025947

I Googled it, and saw some pics.

Weird. I prefer trade paperbacks and (to a lesser extent) paperbacks to hardcovers, anyway. I hate having to pay 3 times as much for an inferior product. Large, heavy, unweildy, with a section that comes away from the rest of it. Hardcovers suck.

I'll admit I have a paperback version, but it's the superior UK edition with the not-shit cover.

The cloud cover is fucking horrible looking.

I want to become more knowledgeable about literature, the english language, prose, syntax etc. What books (fiction) would /lit/ recommend?

I've read all of Joyce's work and I'm working through Faulkner's Bibliography at the minute. Stuff in a similar vein to that.

Is the best method just to read everything? Read classics like The Odyssey and Inferno?

I bought a hardcover on ebay for $25, it turned out to be a first edition in perfect condition. Had a huge nerdgasm.
