What formats does it read?

I need an ebook reader but I'm just getting into the research phase.

It reads .mobi's, .pdf's and some others. But that's negligible if you use Calibre to convert them.

The books you buy off Amazon usually have DRM, but there are several ways out there to strip that. You can put books you've pirated off the internet on Kindles if you want.

That's what BitTorrent is for. Just download the books you can't get or won't pay for, covert to .mobi with calibre, and read.

I love my Kindler 3, especially the digital ink. I still don't see how people can read off a Nook Color after so long, the screen will just strain your eyes like crazy.

In Denmark, and equivalent E-reader would cost from 300$ up to 800$. Theres taxes on everything imported above a certain threshold, so it'll cost more to ship it here.

Also, the American market has around one million e-books atm, where only 4-500.000 is available to me. Annoying. But again, some books are only sold in the Kindle format, which makes a Kindle nice to have.

Kindle3 is pretty good OP all in all, don't worry about the touch ones

Amazon is just wasting money trying to compete with the iPad. They need to just focus on plain old e-ink Kindles. They're better than anything else, and I don't want this Fire shit failing and hurting the regular Kindle brand.

I don't get it, theres a cheap one, then two keyboard kindles, with or without global wi-fi. Without the wifi, wont it be rather useless? I don't know. And i don't know if it's "global" enough to have wi-fi in my country.

The ads don't matter. They are unintrusive and you can even avoid having them. If you don't connect to the interest/register the kindle it never shows you the ads.

Even when you do have them, they are just a screensaver and a small bit of text at the bottom of the main screen. That's it.

I got a question now, how well does the touchscreen work? First i thought the Kindle 3G was amazing, but thinking about having to scroll on a keyboard is agonizing. Like the playstation2 when you had to write your highscores in. Damn.

The amazon page says the battery on the non-touch version will last a month if used half an hour daily. That's a total of 15 hours without wifi on. I thought the e-ink devices were supposed to be extremely energy efficient, using battery pretty much only on page scrolls? Or does it have some passive "features" that eat the battery? Or just a shitty battery?

I'm confused since they renamed their items.

As i said, I'm thinking about getting the Kindle Touch, with adds (99$), but I've been thinking about getting the Kindle Fire instead, since I'm starting studying at a university soon, and it will probably be nice to have, knowing what lectures are canceled and reading messages et cetera. I would be sorry to find, that i needed that broader tablet use later.
But again, i have my PC and cell phone for that, the Kindle should just be a replacement of books.

I'll probably go with the Kindle Touch (99$) and look out for tablets in the future when i (hopefully) have more money at hands.

In the side of the Amazon site, it has a description of accessories, including a power adapter.
Is a power adapter not included!?! I would guess only a USB port is included, which would be fine.

Final question, is a cover worth getting?
Especially the one with inbuilt light, seems innovative since theres a lot of places where i like to read, but have to drag a lamp closer. But if it makes the too much thicker, it would have little use.

I like my Kindle 3. The new Kindles, even the non-touch one, doesn't look as good to me. Touch means screen gets dirty, unless you wash your hands every time you touch it. I don't like the metal back. I like my Kindle 3's material. It's comfy and makes me want to cozy up to it to read.

I didn't get the 3G version because in some reviews, people were having issues with the 3G coverage. I got the cheaper version with "special offers", but honestly, I don't see how it's any different than the $25+ version. I get a screensaver thing that shows up whenever my Kindle is in sleep mode, and that's it. No problems whatsoever.

Not him, but I bought a cover for mine. It's handy as a Kindle "case/protector", and the light is ingenious. Makes reading at night very nice. Then again, the Kindle 3 doesn't have a brightness option imbedded.

If you're still here, isn't the 5 way controller annoying when writing? Or don't you actually need to write anything? I could imagine so. And not turning anything when holding the screen would be nice, annoying to change page just because you get up and hold the screen.

I don't really use my 5-way controller often at all. I used it to set up Collections to organize my book series, but that was it. I mostly turn my Kindle on, use the side buttons to turn the page(s) and then put it back in Sleep mode when I'm done.

That $80 price was tempting, but then I saw it had ads. No thanks, I'd rather not pay $30 more for a standard book experience.

Theres really no point for them paying to get adds about American products in Denmark. I don't like the Touch because it makes the normal book covers sensitive, if you touch the page by mistake, it might change, not optimal. I think the ads are literally screensavers and screensavers only for when the Kindle is in Sleep Mode. That's all it is for me. You don't get random ads while reading or navigating your menus or anything. I'm not really sure why they offered the "Special Offers" version since it's not really different.

What they're now calling the "Kindle Keyboard" was the third normal sized Kindle. So people call it the Kindle 3. The one they're calling just Kindle now would be the Kindle 4.

Not sure what the point of the Kindle Fire is. It's just a tablet. You you want to read e-books (including Kindle books) on a back-lit screen, you can do that on any tablet. The reason you get a Kindle is the e-ink screen.
