then, go to /mu/, find some Parisian jazz from the '20s and '30s

I moved into Tarkovsky pretty smoothly. To give you an idea, my "film evolution" went like this:
Paul Thomas Anderson -> Tarkovsky -> Bunuel

I went straight from English movies with linear plots and such to Tarkovsky, no big deal. I think the main reason people don't watch his movies is that they've never heard of him, hence
>mainstream in terms of ___cinephiles____
, rather than the fact that his movies may be "2deep4" them.

Hmm.

I've seen hipsters. The city I used to live in, this guy would wear a top hat while riding on his bicycle around town. I'm not even making that up.

To me, a "hipster" is someone who goes out of their way to SHOW the world that they're unique. Like, someone who tries way to hard and makes way too much of an ostentatious show of their likes.

You can disagree with me, but I swear to God hipsters exist, and I've seen them.

i think the problem is that i lived and worked in long beach and echo park for years, where everybody did shit like that. plus my wife lives in seattle, and i have friends in portland, brooklyn, and san francisco. this shit just registers as normal to me, just like baggy jean shorts and trucker caps register as normal in the inland empire. it's a cultural landscape.

but hey, i'm a bit of a ham. i try to stand out via accomplishments these days, but i don't object to people who like to look ostentatious. my ex was a comic writer and she basically dressed like a superhero every day.

do what you want, people. just be real about it. really want it. have passions, and let that guide your image, not the other way around.

Mind=blown.

I've just discovered that Ingmar Bergman's not related to Ingrid.

I always assumed they were like siblings or whatevs.

Fucking Bergman man, death playing chess. Miserable bastard. You know what I like? Transformers and Iron Man - you know where you are with them. You know you're not going to get a numb arse watching some cunt blunder along a beach for seven and a half hours.

Werner Herzog - he's pukka, but Bergman? Fuck off. All you need to know about Bergman is that he's Woody Allen's favourite fucking director. I rest my case. Woody fucking Allen, I ask you.

1.) Get a bunch of classic literature and put it on your coffee table. If anyone asks you about the books, only regurgitate the cliff notes analysis of the works, as if they are your own opinion.

2.) Secure a trust fund. This will come in handy, later.

3.) Get craftsy. It doesnt matter if you dont have any actual interest in the Arts. Grab some Elmers glue, some broken broken bottles on the curb and some industrial paint and fashion some keychains.

4.) Sell these keychains for 70$ (or your countries equivalent thereof) on an Etsy storefront. Make sure to include a mission statement about helping Our Mother Earth by "recycling". Use the proceeds to buy Pabst Blue Ribbon.

5.) Go into town and by some new clothing. All of your old clothes are too mainstream. Find the most dusty, over-crowded vintage store on the street and buy up all of its wares. Ideally, you want to be at least 30 years behind whatever's popular now. Bring your gold credit card. Old gym shorts are expensive.

6.) Find a local band, preferably a bad one. Make sure they are "underground". If you dont know what this means, you are destined to be uncool forever. When you attend their shows, record their music. Lament loudly and publicly that no one supports these artists. Afterward, make mp3s of the recordings at the lowest bitrate possible. Distribute them online.
