21826414 No.21826414 [Reply] [Original]

I will review your book. I will not blow smoke up your ass. I will review it as if I were holding it to the same standards as any traditionally published work. I will not give you a positive review simply because you are a nice person. I will review it and provide commentary on it of no less than a few thousand words. I will create a video of my review as well and put it on YouTube.
https://LampByLit.com/magazine
https://www.youtube.com/@lampbylit

TO HAVE YOUR BOOK REVIEWED:
Simply ship me a paperback copy of your book. If I enjoy your book and review it positively, then I will have no problem purchasing your next title for review, however it will be up to you to provide me with a physical copy of your work so that I can review it properly (I prefer physical (plus I want to be able to hold the physical during my YouTube review)).
All you have to do to have your book reviewed is ship it to me, and notify me by email. If I do not receive a notification by email, I will attempt to contact you, or I will simply review the book without making contact.
Please ship your book (your work, not anybody else's please) to the following address:

K. R. HARTLEY
PO BOX 99900 FM 890 098
RPO LITTLE ITALY
VANCOUVER BC V5L 0B5

(Don't worry, this is a 'flex delivery' address that protects my home address and identity (much like a mobile post office box).

WHY AM I DOING THIS?
Because the worst part of being a writer in a circle of other writers is that nobody is willing to provide honest, critical feedback. Most of us are simply shilling our books without reading the books of others. There should be an institution or instrument of /lit/ that provides genuine critique that holds our works to an appropriate literary standard.

ADDITIONALLY:
Please review the following directory of /lit/ authors to see if your profile is suitable (maximum three titles per author); if you want your profile to be added, please provide me with all of the details of your published title ITT:
https://lampbylit.com/magazine/authors/

INQUIRIES:
Afterhours inquiries (after the thread dies) can be sent to &amp Magazine:

The first titles that I will be reviewing are:
>Eggplanmt
>By Ogden Nesmer
I've already read Eggplant but it wasn't all at once (it was partially serialized in &amp Magazine) and it's sort of /lit/ standard so I believe this is an appropriate start. Bezos owed me a favor so this title is currently on its way to me. I would have started with Behead All Satans by MNM-Dr however I'm not entirely convinced that he still hangs out here, and I'd like to focus on /lit/ related material.

>The Savage Green
>By Zulu Alitspa
I've read some of Alitspa's work via his pseudonymous submissions to &amp Magazine. I'm excited to read his work. He also seems to be a prolific writer and community stalwart so it's an appropriate choice for my second review. Bezos owed me a favor so this title is currently on its way to me.

>Tales of The Unreal: Vol. 1 No. 1
>By Various Authors
I'm getting more cliqued up with these guys now and I admit that I'm extremely excited to see where they take the Unreal Press. Very cool shit. I don't mind reviewing compilations; obviously I'm not going to go into as much detail per story, but will spend the same amount of time in total in my review. I will likely compare the pieces, determine which I like best and why, and also put commentary to the overall release. Bezos owed me a favor so this title is currently on its way to me.

There was a thread recently about /lit/ writers and someone mentioned the ongoing /lit/ renaissance. I have started to write my novel recently (I have an outline, I just have to write it).

I think between you shilling Chicken World and Tales of the Unreal I feel like now is the best time to self publish and self promote via /lit/. With my next paycheck I’m gonna make my first Amazon purchase in years to obtain a selection of /lit/ books.

Definitely taking recommendations.

I’ve used the term /lit/ renaissance a bunch lately so it could have been me; i genuinely feel a sea change.
I just finished a podcast with some of the Unreal Press guys, and during it, I came to the realization that there is a history to be told of the works that have emerged from this board.
A lot of anons don’t have my perspective, and some will have more than I have, however I remember in the before-times, there were a lot of collaborative efforts put together by anons that resulted in published works of varying caliber, such as the triumphant Coronameron, and the Legacy of Totalitarianism in a Tundra.
There’s been an interesting shift from working as anons together, building works by Anonymous, to a faction of independent authors who have now teamed up to form the internets preeminent literary gang. It’s super exciting and I look forward to putting the work in. I might even portend that there’s a small name to be made for myself in the establishment of a reliable /lit/teary critique.
There should definitely be an ‘Early /lit/ Reading List’ detailing some of the more epic collaborative works by Anonymous. I’ll likely do that at some point too.

I grabbed this list from that previous /lit/ books thread. It made me realize how much I’ve been on /lit/. I was in college at the time of “Totalitarianism in the Tundra” and I remember someone saying they wanted it to be “the next worst thing to happen on 9/11.”

I spent a lot of time on /lit/ while I got my bachelors and then I left the site for a long while. In the past year or so I’ve been back and it’s really been great to see this flourishing. Of all the boards I used to scroll this is the only one that has maintained any semblance of quality (although I know it’s taken a hit, I appreciate that there are still oldfags here and there are enough solid threads to balance out the bullshit)

True facts. The feeling that those projects used to give me was my entire impetus for founding &amp. I wanted so badly to be a part of that, to recreate that liminal inspiration. And it sort of worked. The evolution is fascinating to me, but you’re right, we can never go back.
Though I believe if we organize well enough, we can actually build an epic work attributed to Anonymous. I’ve always had visions of grandeur of /lit/ writing a turbo epic, 800,000 word count post-modern doorstopper that is sweeping and sprawling and dabs on Joyce, Pynchon, Wallace, Tolstoy, fucking Homer, something great, something really, really great (or at least great-seeming).

The Unreal Press has done a lot of work with regards to simply summoning and feeding the egregore that you’re feeling.
I would even say that your post itself is a fantastic example of the lore and myth of those (and these) works. Sometimes I feel like I recognize anons just from their writing, like strange faces in ink. It’s cool to know there is real meme magic lurking.

>> No.21830424

Why not first read the "Look Inside" portion of these books on Amazon, and narrow it down to a list of books you'd like to read more of?

You are asking for yourself and others to be doxxed and sent dragon dildos (among other grotesque antics) and Cheese Pizza (not the kind you want). Those authors have likely used pennames, or have otherwise already exposed their names to the internet and are actually looking for further exposure, which was the point of the directory. The PO Box that I provided is what's referred to as a Flex Address here in Canada, it's like a General Delivery. I've discovered that as long as I show them the email notification on my phone, they let me use whatever name that I want.
I even consider myself a mail enthusiast, and I'm no stranger to sending and receiving fucked up shit in the mail. I'm not afraid of dragon dildos or pizza, I know my rights.
>>21830424 This is a decent idea.
People can ship me an author's copy direct from Amazon if they wish, I don't care. It's a small price to pay for having a comprehensive review, and it would make zero sense for me to simply buy all of the books. It's a quid pro quo. I have already purchased the first four books that I'll be reviewing from publishers themselves. I believe author's will donate their book if I can create a service of credible repute.

I'm such a weird nerd that I've already started prepping the manuscript for the project. kek. Editing would best be handled by volunteers who would use Editing permissions to the google hot doc to simply approve 'Suggestions' made by contributors, who would themselves have Commenting/Suggesting permissions. That would keep some anon from spamming the doc with Moby-Dick (man i miss that shit) or unintentional mistakes/malicious actors. I would love to edit it of course. Most anons would probably like a chance to edit as well as contribute, so maybe it would rotate. The hot doc would likely be available year round, or for a good long while until a certain date by which it should be finished.

Just be sure to snatch a decent domain name from godaddy or something because your website or blog will flounder on the 12th page of Google search results if you leave ".wix" or ".wordpress" in the URL because you were too cheap to license your own.

Last spring, I was driving home from getting an evening treat at Wendy's or McDonald's, I forget which, and I drove by this scene with my kid in the back:

There was so much blood and the guy was lying down on the median dead. My kid saw it and I tried to make a joke like "oh boy, looks like he was carrying a lot of strawberries and dropped them" or something, and my kid said "No dad, that's blood, he's dead."

So dark, kid was only 5 at the time and witnessed that shit!

The main reason is stuck out is because the author's devotion to classic Persian literary tradition resulted in an opening scene which consists of 17 pages describing the way sunlight falls on the narrator's desk.

I also recall at one point or another seeing an excerpt from an unpublished Transylvanian author which I believe was titled "The Church and the Shepard," and I was totally blown away by the opening line and the fact that he was writing it in English and Transylvanian at the same time. Is the author of that piece browsing this thread by any chance?
