I really enjoyed this book but I'm failing to understand Mr. Darcy. He's just an awkward rich guy? Obviously his pride keeps him from securing Elizabeth early in the novel (and her prejudice from taking a different perspective on him) but it seems to be his wealth is a major concern. Elizabeth even mentions that seeing Pemberley, his giant estate, as the first moment when her feelings turned towards love. Darcy of course reveals that it's his love of Elizabeth's mind that was the first spark of the romance between them (which is something I look for in women as well).
I suppose I'm wondering how I correlate this character to myself, since this is the whole reason I picked up the book to begin with. I'm not close to the landed gentry. I get paid well but I'm just a state schooled American from a middle-class family. Was she just calling me awkward? I suppose I'm a little reserved but I'm certainly socially acceptable. I didn't expect a novel about debutantes to trigger a reflection like this.

What is /lit/'s take on Mr. Darcy?

she might want to fuck you. Women really love Darcy

I need to read this book. So many pretty bitches have read it. Plus, they're all secretly trad (although more often then not they cope by saying they would have been feminists in that misogynistic era that they obsess over). A lot are ruined but some are definitely prime material. I can fix them, it shouldn't be too hard.

Honestly after reading it Elizabeth Bennet is my kind of girl. I suppose I'll have to trust in the Lord that he'll give me a chance with one like that someday.
I would love to hear Jane Austen's opinion on modern women. From Margaret Thatcher to Livvy Dunne.

she wants the D

Apart from his money, Darcy isn't a classic romantic chad. He's socially awkward and unpopular, in contrast to Wickham. But Elizabeth and the reader learn to see the real him.
In summary OP, she wants the D. She thinks that underneath your autistic presentation, you're a pretty swell guy and bf material. Don't let us down.
