I've made the decision and it's GOING to happen. There's nothing that can stop it. Could any of you recommend a book or story that I could read so I can make this transition peacefully. I'm not talking about "Final Exit" or anything like that....I already know how I'm going to do it. I just want a nice soft story to read before I take the plunge.

btw, it's not a depression thing. I'm dying from a condition I can't control and I don't want to spend the last few months of my life in a hospital. If it weren't for my ailment I would choose to live, but I'm dying and just want to read something that'll soften the blow and not give me any hope or anything like that. Just something nice and comfortable.

Thanks in advance.

Marcovaldo by Italo Calvino
The Leopard by Lampedusa
Metamorphoses by Ovid (if you like Greeks and mythology, don't bother otherwise)
Hundred Years of Solitude by Garcia Marquez

None of these are about death, but they're all nice reads.

I would suggest the Bible, but it’s very uncomfy unless you have Jesus.
