Baldwin's prose is better than Ellison's. His thoughts are better than Ellison's. His characters are better than Ellison's. Invisible Man is 300 pages of pure cope and impotent rage. There is nothing in that screed that isn't done better in a dozen other novels; James Weldon Johnson's "Autobiography of an Ex-Colored Man" does everything Invisible Man purports to do with more grace, humility, and aesthetic beauty than anything Ellison ever wrote.

Ellison was the Ta-Nehisi Coates of his generation and deserves mockery. Thanks for coming to my TEDTalk.
