I read Sombrero Fallout and liked it so I'll give this one a chance.

>>22609232
I'll take the Old Man and the Sea off my backlog tomorrow, thanks for the reminder. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea should be fun too. Moby D I'll tackle once the others are done.

Reading it now and am kicking myself for having put it off so long. The atmosphere, the slice of life sections, Ishmael being a huge dork, and Melville knowing exactly when to go full Old Testament with the prose.

Trout Fishing in America is essentially what you would get if you reduced Sombrero Fallout to one page long and did that 100 times each time doing it in a different way and then tying them all together in a cohesive book, it is Brautigan at his most experimental. Picrel would be where to go with Brautigan and fish if you want something more traditional and shows Brautigan at his most refined and nuanced. In Watermelon Sugar also has trout in it and would not be a bad place to go if the surrealist elements of Sombrero Fallout really did it for you but fish only play a small role.

The man liked trout.

Gould's Book of Fish is a really solid book Im surprised to see doesnt get any love on /lit/. Its about a convict in Tasmania who paints fish to get out of manual labor. Very funny throughout.

I can't really blame them for eschewing modern literature. Still unfortunate. I dont use lit much nowadays I thought Gaddis, Nabokov, Gass, Pynchon and Bolaño were all pretty well liked here is that not the case anymore?

Lovecraft wrote a lot of nautical nonsense about fishy goings on.
