Tell me the BEST way to get into poetry if I have 0 (zero) knowledge and understanding of this elusive art form.

As lame as this advice may sound, just read some and see what you like. To begin with, don't get caught up trying to decipher something that doesn't immediately speak to you, you'll just end up feeling retarded and frustrated. Start off with something easy like Poe, his stuff is fun and pretty grounded, non pretentious. Personally I'm a sucker for Keats, you could read his 5 Ode's in the time it would take you to jerk off.

Mary Oliver’s Handbook and a collection of great poems in your language. Harold Bloom’s book is fine but ignore his commentary and just read the poems. Don’t bother with Mary Oliver’s poetry. She’s a great poetry teacher but a mediocre poet.

I really disliked Western Wind and Rhyme’s Reason. I could see the former being useful in an undergraduate course where readings are curated by a careful lecturer, but it is too dense and disparate on its own. The latter just sucked. I don’t think it was helpful at all. Mary Oliver’s book is probably the single most accessible book on poetry on the market.
