I had an octopus tattooed on me to celebrate the first time I dived past 50m (an octopus attached itself to me at depth and I nearly lost my shit and panicked, but he was only being friendly).

I also have a "diver down" flag tattooed on me. It celebrates me getting my advanced diving certificate.

I know it's probably hipster or whatever, but I felt that the pain etc. of having them done was some kind of initiation, and a statement that in doing what I'd done, I'd gone beyond the limits a little.

On the other hand, I maybe just like the opportunity to show them to chicks. Who knows, eh?
