Any fans of Scottish fiction floating around? Being a Scot, I've shamefully never delved into our literary offerings. Recently read Trainspotting and How Late it Was, How late.

Trainspotting was excellent, but How Late was just too circular and boring.

Any thoughts /lit/? Or suggestions would be welcome.

I'm pretty fond of Muriel Spark's work, but I can't say I've read much Scottish lit besides her.

Been meaning to get some Gray. Any recommendations to start with?

I saw his short stories for a pound in my local book shop. Been meaning to pick it up.

Has anyone actually read Skag Boys? Trainspotting was a stellar read, but I can't help but feeling like Skag Boys is just going to be 'Begbie glasses speccy cunts, Spud acts the retard, Sick Boy fucks a swathe of girls, and Renton slowly kills himself 2 - Electric Boogaloo'.

I have read every single other book of his and have skag boys ready and waiting. I just have about 100 pages to go of cloud atlas before I sink my teeth into it.

Also this:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1809287/

It was released last month but I cant find it anywhere. I hope its not as bad as the acid house film adaptation.

Most of Scottish lit is very bland.
80% is detective novels.

OP here, I'm Glasgow as well. Quite handily across from voltaire and rousseau. haha

I'm looking forward to reading Skag Boys, but after reading Filth, I have my doubts about his other work. An unfair assumption considering those are the only two I've read.

Bland? Have you read Kelman? Pure rollercoaster of excitement.
