i hate when i finish reading a novel and it turns out to be complete shite. 9 pounds down the bin. fucking hell. all those hours. at least horrible movies only last so long.

by the way, it was Grow Up by Ben Brooks and before that, coupland's girlfriend in a coma.....utter piece of garbage

This.

"Try and swallow a teaspoon of cinnamon"

Do you know what's better than that?
"Swallow a teaspoon of nutmeg." Yeah. You'd do it. I'd do it. Where is my nutmeg?

how the fuck do you read through a whole novel and not think to yourself;

"Well, I actually think this novel is shit, I think I'll stop reading it"

>> No.2685612

>>2685589
Not funny. My brother died that way.

>> No.2685619

If I don't like something, I'll normally give up in the first 30 pages. Even classic stuff, like Malone Dies and Mrs Dalloway for example.

I've read 200 pages of Feast for Crows and this shit is terrible.

I can't do that. I have this nasty autistic tendency to persevere in case I miss something really good. I think I have actually finished every book I have started.

Isn't that one of the last parts? Why didn't you start with the first novel?

Yes you do. Shit's fantastic.
Even better, you can read the book without buying it with relative ease. Then, you only support authors you appreciate.

that's not admirable, or cool, or even that quirky-type of OCD that i know YOU think paints something interesting about themselves.

the only time your policy would make sense would be if you had an eye for picking out good pieces of literature before you begin. which you clearly haven't been.

Except he will be reaping the rewards for persevering, while you will be an unhappy failure, because you gave up everything you ever tried to do.

with the same logic, if i am going down a road that dead-ends, i ought to still go just in order to "perservere."

for those of us that have actual goals to explore, ideas to satisfy, or things to change, then this is not a logic worth investigating.

unless you can somehow argue on its behalf--e.g. dropping shitty literature before the end--then you too just sound like a total tool.

Get a load of this guy. He is actually hating on an autistic guy who likes to finish books.

Just watch as he shouts at babies for not being able to speak french.

If I abandoned every movie that started out shitty, I'd hardly get through any of them. How do I know there's no set-up and pay-off?

And even if the reading starts out shit, I'd like to know how the plot ends. Also, I can't just return the book. I might as well get my pound's worth.

This. People in this thread are moaning about somebody wasting a time finishing a bad book. Meanwhile they are on 4chan, which is a lot worse than a bad novel.
