We all like to write right? Good then this belongs here.

/lit/ used to be full of people who liked to write. What made /lit/ different from other boards was the fact that it wasn't full of one-liners and green-text. You could actually have a conversation - about books or writing - with other members. This was a refuge from chantards.

All I see now is reaction images and greentext.

If you're too fucking lazy to explain yourself, don't post here at all. I would rather have a slower board than a board that moves lightning fast with posts like

>implying positivism

taking up 99% of the content. Fucking plebs. The plebs are so arrogant they think other posters understand their words in the same way they do, so they don't take the time to write out posts like this one.

In conclusion, if you think >implying and >lol greentext are funny, you should die in a fire. Thanks for reading!

I just feel like you and everyone else on /lit/ has no right to write creatively and be taken seriously at the same time. All the great authors are gone and you should stick to criticism and appreciation.

I hate when in this day and age people pretend to have some life experience worth knowing about, you are not Tennessee Williams and never will be.

>> No.2855494

I was going to ironically shitpost in this thread, by greentexting and posting a reaction image.

Then I realized, acting stupid for a joke is still acting stupid. How could I live with myself knowing that I contributed to the cancer that mildly irritated someone on /lit/? No, I must rise above the status quo of shit posting and help build this board up as the greatest of all time.

Thank you OP, you've helped me get my life together. I don't know how I can ever thank you.

>> No.2855503

I think it's a bit harsh to tell people to die in a fire, but I agree that well thought out posts make for a better board than dozens of ">implying" posts.

I do take issue with your use of "pleb" to attach negative connotations to those of a lower economic status than yourself. I realize this is fashionable on 4chan, but I think it's just as destructive of actual discussion as ">tfw" and the like. Posters with opinions you dislike are dismissed as "plebs" and no actual debate or even discussion can occur between people who have differing views.

I agree with you, I ignore all the "hurr rate my writing" threads. Though certainly people should continue to post and critique stories if that's what they like to do. What really grinds my gears are the philosophy threads that turn to /pol/-style bullshit, same with book threads. I swear it doesn't matter how sincere the OP is, it's only a matter of time before it becomes
>implying Ayn Rand LOL xD

Or
>implying God LOL SO EDGY xD

>>2855503

Personally I reserve the word "pleb" for shitposters. I've noticed some people use it for people who don't speak dead languages, which I find a little excessive. But who cares. Anything is better than one-liners at this point.

I've been lurking /lit/ for about 5 months now, and like all the other boards, I think /lit/ seems to have been poisoned by the effects of summer vacation. However, even during the other months, you must realize that you're still on 4chan; there will always be people >implying and shitposting. Also, using the term pleb isn't a great way to denounce chantards and shitposting.

Pleb was originally a term used to denote social (and to an extent economic) status. It referred to free, land-owning Roman citizens who were nonetheless not allowed to hold political office and the like. In modern usage, it refers to people of the middle and lower classes.

When you use "pleb" as an insult, you're essentially implying that the rich are somehow superior to those with less money. Just a bit materialistic.

Well half the fucking problem is that you have a bunch of 15-year-olds pretending to be philosophers. They turn threads into greentext because they're too solipsistic to want to communicate with anyone. They just want to shit on someone who disagrees, laugh and move on.

I am definitely with you, if this summer is going to work, if this board is going to work, people need to put more consideration into their posts. It's not that difficult to explain ideas. Maybe some people would think this very post is over-explaining things. But it isn't, it's long so that the reader can have the ideas sink into his head. I could have just said

"I agree people should post more"

But I didn't because this is /lit/.

True, but there's also a negative intellectual connotation that goes with it. It's used to describe common people, with common taste, intelligence, etc.

ple·be·ian
[pli-bee-uhn]
adjective
1. belonging or pertaining to the common people.
2. of, pertaining to, or belonging to the ancient Roman plebs.
>3. common, commonplace, or vulgar: a plebeian joke.

noun
4. a member of the common people.
5. a member of the ancient Roman plebs.

4chan as a whole is on a continual downward incline in quality. It has always been this way and it always will be. Everything about 4chan is slowly getting worse. It is as if there is some metaphysical feature about 4chan that necessitates it, that forces the hand of nature to propagate such an idiosyncratic macrophysical event. And it is a foolish man who summons his will to avert it.

I'm okay with this. From now on I will consider the use of the word "pleb" to be a mark of "plebness".

Also the plebeians were only poor in virtually prehistoric times (~7th - 4th centuries BC). I know it's not true prehistory but for Rome it is a "dark age" in the sense that virtually no substantial writings from that time period survive. Livy tells us some stories but who knows what to make of them. By the time of Rome's "Golden Age" the distinction between plebeian and patrician was not uber-important. I know, I know, it still had SOME importance, but it wasn't a socioeconomic thing at all, there were lots of rich plebeians.

This is exactly what I mean. You know I meant "no substantial Latin writings" (or maybe you didn't and you really are that stupid). Just shut the fuck up and read a manga or something.

Seriously..? Are you a pleb?

>> No.2855569

>>2855562

I meant that there are no substantial LATIN pieces from that time. Rome's history before the fourth century BC is pretty speculative. The earliest not-fragmented-to-shit history of Rome around is Livy and he was writing under Augustus. And Livy is fragmented-to-shit, too.

Not them. I mostly lurk. Care to explain why people should have been able to read your mind and know precisely what you meant? Wouldn't it have been better for you to explain yourself fully, instead of being lazy and expecting posters to simply understand?

For that matter, do you actually think a post can't raise a valid point without being a wall of text, or are you just looking for reasons to dismiss the people who disagree with you?

>> No.2855604

you faggots really don't understand the use of the word 'pleb?' you're really implying that it's only used as a definition of ancient roman commoners?

Hey, don't blame us for JIDF propaganda

And I do not even begin to care what you want in this board or who you think is "worthy" of posting, you know what's worst than some 13 year old writing their fanfiction on here? 4chan SUPER COOL SECRET KLUB GUYS LOLO ELITE NERDZ ONLY HACKERS ON STEROIDS LOLOL LEGION XD guys like you that pretend there's some form of standard for "quality" anything on 4chan, instead of realizing it's an open website that just so happens to have some people get on and post at an opportune time.

8/10, I just hate meta threads anywhere, it's just the thought that some young adult in his/her room in their underwear has the audacity to assume an open forum should go their way, like the spoiled little fucking brat they are, as if there is some community or way of life to defend.

It's a chan site. Anyone can post anything, with bans a possibility. Get the fuck over it. If you want a site for a specific interest, Google can likely list a whole collection of websites that likely spent some time and/or money setting up their SEO so that it would show up on a Google search, with properly moderated content.

tl;dr shut up you entitled twit. This isn't your website or secret club. Fucking white male cis privileged Jew cocksucker

I agree with you but please, could you stop using that pleb/patrician shit? It just ends the discussion, nobody wants to be called such a pejorative name. That doesn't add to discussion and is part of the problem in this board (which i still consider better than any of the others)
