I didn't care either way. Personally, I don't get why this thing was such a big deal. You have teens with raging hormones boozing it up. It doesn't take a genius to see that shit was going to go down.

As for the rape, I'm on the fence about this. After all, what was an underage girl doing at a party getting drunk? Where were the parents?

Don't know it too well, heard a few rumblings but not American so..

But generally I fall towards support of the rape victim. I see this analogy all the time where if you left your home unlocked, windows open and so forth then you're of course going to get burgled or robbed if you walk around with tons of expensive things on show in a dodgy area. However, even though the person could do a lot to prevent it they are not to blame if they are the victim of those crimes. The blame is solely on the person who commits the crime as even if they had the perfect opportunity doesn't change the fact they made a decision to commit the crime.

However, I don't believe people who say an individual can do a lot to prevent being raped should be ignored. Like any other crime one person can do a number of things to lower the odds: make sure people know where you are, don't get too drunk with strangers etc. Of course, if it's patronising like don't dress like a slut or something similar then it is silly, but there are plenty of people offering sound, non-judgmental advice who are shouted down by people for somehow advocating rape.

Ultimately, the blame lies with the rapist. As stupidly as the other person behaves the rapist still committed the crime.

From what I've heard she was drugged. Also it wasn't the average case of a girl being to drunk, having sex, then complaining the next day that she was too drunk to make the decision. She was completely unconscious, stripped naked, handed around to multiple people who had sex with her, photographed naked, and I think even pissed on. And when she tried to report it she faced people within the system that encouraged her to drop it and tried to cover it up because they knew the kids who did it.

I think one shouldnt take everything so serious. Look there is literature about all this stuff, it happens and it happens again. It is not new, I think society makes it even worse than it actually is. I think society leads the victims to psychosis because they treat you like someone who was traumatized - and then you become traumatized.

My issue is not that they are arrested for committing the crime: if they did it even as the result of entrapment then they should be charged for the crime.

The issue is using entrapment in the first place as it is bringing out a situation that otherwise wouldn't occur. I think there are moral issues with the police doing that. They are purposefully trying to provoke someone to commit the crime.

Rape victims aren't trying to cause someone to rape them. They may increase the chances of it happening to them through their behaviour but they aren't trying to get people to rape them. If there is someone out there trying to get people to rape them for whatever reason then yes they are at moral fault but I think that is a very tiny minority.
