On what.cd you have to maintain a ratio. For every byte you download, you have to upload at least 0.2 bytes or your account gets deleted. This is a lot harder to do than it sounds, since this creates a "ratio economy" where people are bearish about downloading and everyone seeds everything.

By filling bounties, you get extra upload credit added to your account. The guy who uploaded this got credit for 6TB of seeding.

Can we talk about the Ocean full of bowling balls?

I didn't exactly understand the title and its use in the story. All I can think back to is the wife from Vincents story throwing out her husbands bowling ball, likely out of anger for her past failures and as a means of ignoring them. Vincent acts in a similar way after Kenneth responds sourly to his story, letting his innocent childlike critique convince him that his story is bad and throwing it out right then and there.

He goes on for the rest of the day to let Vincent dictate most of what he does up until they get to wise man rock, where his lack of confidence leads to his brothers death by an "ocean full of bowling balls."

>> No.4315069

As many of you are aware, a leak of J.D. Salinger’s heretofore unpublished “Three Stories” found its way to What.CD in the last day. It is our current belief that this leak originated as a physical copy on eBay and made its way to our site in digital form thereafter, although we cannot confirm this lineage at present.

The official request for these stories has existed on What.CD for some time, and although many thought it would never be filled or otherwise viewed it as a harmless act of communal wishing, the request’s existence was in no way a formal endorsement by What.CD Staff.

The site was temporarily brought down so that we could work to preemptively resolve issues related to the leaked content and the publicity it has received.

Our first priority can and must be the protection of What.CD. Due to this case’s rare and unlikely circumstances, due to the unnecessary and unwanted attention the Salinger leak has brought, and due to our desire to comply with the desires of the Salinger estate or other involved parties in this matter, the content has been removed from What.CD. It is not to be re-uploaded under any circumstances, and anyone found doing so will have their account disabled.

We thank you for your patience as we continue to resolve this matter. Additional details will become available as is necessary per the discretion of the Staff.

Simply an epic win by the what.cd staff :)

Okay, so let me get this straight:

Allie from The Catcher in the Rye is Kenneth
D.B is Vincent
Holden is Holden and Phoebe is Phoebe

What I'm trying to figure out is how Vincent's story about the bowling balls relates to the ocean being bowling balls later in the story.

I thought Kenneth (Allie) died of Leukemia?

I loved the story, but it left me slightly confused. Also, Holden's letter from camp was adorable.

I already have and I didn't spot a single error, the software I used is pretty good, and the high res PDF helped; I'm only giving it good formatting for kindles because I really fucking hate when I download eBooks and they're fucked up and poorly formatted

I only read Cather in the Rye. Are his other short stories worth reading?

It's all in the thread. it's because they were not supposed to get published by salinger's will.

Oh yeah, i read some stuff some time ago about some work would get published in the next 10 years, so these are the stories?

I thought Sallinger wanted to publish but with as less publicity as possible.

There are a lot of dialogue punctuation fuckups in the later stories, at least in the PDF.

Sorry, that isn't how it works. Inviting users publicly can cause the guy who invited to be permabanned. People on /g/ and /mu/ always report it when it happens. So hopefully youdidn't get an invite and risk the guy's useraccount.

Apparently he got it off ebay. Man, I was really hoping someone on whatcd would go to the library and somehow sneak in a camera and photograph every page.

This is still awesome, it was thought that it would never be filled, and then it causes a massive shitstorm

yeah

the most baffling thing, however, is how it ended up in a very limited and highly unofficial book that has managed to remain undiscovered (or at least kept off the internet) for 14 years. i hope some investigative journalist somewhere is on this already

I know I'm a day late, but you are just so fucking stupid i have to reply and i got nothing better to do.

The reason it is unlikely all lights will be leaked in its entirety is because it lowers the value of the physical copies. nobody is gonna rip their tape if their tape could potentially lose thousands in value.

Nobody, besides princeton and salinger and their lackeys, care if this is released. nobody loses any money. therefor it was all the more likely this would be leaked.
