Looking for some books to read. I have 'The Road' on my list and am looking for other books where the setting is post apocalyptic.

Also wouldnt mind some suggestions for 'intellectual' or some type of philosophical material. Not trying to be a tryhard faggot, just want some interesting books to read.

discard the road if you're interested in depth, intellectual or philosophical material. it's just
>the sky is dark and scary
>muh son

It continues to baffle me the dystopian appeal to teenagers.

What is it about post apocalyptic vampire romance shitty action adventure novels that grabs your attention so?

THE ROAD, IN SEVEN WORDS:

"There is no hope after nuclear war."

okay, so what do you recommend?

I don't know, I just like them. Always have.

It appeals to the teenage longing to never grow up. If the world gets blown up and we all have to go into survival mode, then the teens don't have to do silly adult things like go to college or work. They just have to brood under the dark sky.

no Vampires in McCarthy's "The Road," but cannibals and rapists for sure. I can understand the appeal to most-- it's so bleak, so depressing, so full of heartache. Maybe, some kind of positive ending...but it depends on how you read the book. I do believe that once again, the popularity of this novel now is a direct result of it being a movie. But remember, the movie and the book differ quite a bit.

It's not unexplained. It's plainly the Christian Rapture. The Road is basically Left Behind but for grownups.

That's a good take on it, but I don't necessarily agree. I think one could infer nuclear war OR some divine act. Allegories exist within that may give rise to Biblical criticism, but I (personally) never read that book as Christian theology, or any kind of religious slant.

Nah, for me, it was a Father doing everything he could to ensure the survival of his Son in the aftermath of the inevitable (as was described by McCarthy).

Da Scarlet Plague by Jack London. Shit is straight up gangsta and is likely the first post apocalyptic story.

America gets fucked, must be a post apocalyptic novel. Is this guy serious. This is like writing a novel about people left in the radioactive zone after the chernobyl disaster and calling it a post-apocalyptic novel.

Does anyone have any post apocalyptic books that they could recommend?

Good timing on this question. The #1 rated book on Amazon right now for post apocalyptic and horror apparently is book one of Adrian's Undead Diary.

Granted, it's a zombie story, but it's some fine ass writing. I've read it through online three times, and I bought books one and two off Amazon last week. I can't afford book three yet, but I want it. The story kick into overdrive right about then. His fantasy book Wrath of the Orphans isn't as good, but still worth a read.

Check it out. Link provided to the author's page on Amazon.

Pic related. Sort of.
