Game of Thrones is on Season 4, what book are they on?

I've read the first one already should I read the second one or skip it for the third?

Do they get better and better like most people say?

how about you do something worthwhile like starting with the Greeks

season 4 is the second half of the third book but they're messing with the chronology of a couple characters
you might want to read the second just because they had to mix up and simplify a lot of the plot for the sake of tv

So is this the Dune of fantasy genre?

>> No.4859178

>>4859176
No, Dune is the Dune of fantasy genre.

>> No.4859194

It's a mixture of:
- stuff from the second half of book 3
- bits and pieces based on stuff from books 4 and 5 (particularly the Brienne and Bolton/Theon storylines)
- OC (e.g. Bran at Craster's Keep)
- stuff that the books haven't revealed yet and might not be OC (e.g. the Night's King and the baby at the end of ep 4)

>there are people on /lit/ right now who think responding "Start with the Greeks" to every thread is still funny

To OP: they're on books 3 and 4. Season 3 was the first half of book 3. Almost everything in the show is the latter half of book 3, except for Bran and Cersei/Jaime's plotlines, which seem to be accelerating into book 4 by this point

oh yeah, forgot to add. Either read all the books, or none. If you skip ahead you're going to miss much of the important differences in the books and be pretty lost.

Oh yeah, and books 1 and 3 were easily the best. 4 and 5 are not so good.
