John, but Thomas is GOAT:

>>Simon Peter said to them, "Make Mary leave us, for females don't deserve life." Jesus said, "Look, I will guide her to make her male, so that she too may become a living spirit resembling you males. For every female who makes herself male will enter the domain of Heaven."

The "gnostics" are NOT heresies.

They're all heresy if you take any of them to be one.
OR
Only ONE of them is accurate. Ah, but which one? You'll never know.

Gnostics are heretics who deny the Law and think themselves above its creed, "through grace" and invert the creation mythos in favor of serpent, while vilifying the creator and fashioner of the Kosmos as "evil".

Damn dude. The gnostics are super deep. I remember my momentary fascination with them when I turned 18 and wasn't being forced to attend church and go to Protestant school. Didn't amount to much more than reading the Gospel of Thomas and a few wikipedia articles. Still, it was a fun way to complicate my view of Christianity as this tightly agreed upon thing.

My favorite gospel is John. I like how he calls himself "the disciple who Jesus loved". It amuses me. And as others have noted, it has a great opening.

Matthew is pretty good too, if I remember correctly. I think Mark was my least favorite. Nothing too special about it, I think.

There is no "the Law" There are a multitude of opinions, not just in Christian laws.
They simply tried to make sense of that Hebrew mess that was getting mashed together with the new cult of Christ BS.

>love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you

Did that get edited out of the bible or something? So weird to hear it like that. I always thought it was:

"anyone who disagrees with you or doesn't follow your creed is your enemy and you must persecute them from the pulpit and office and destroy their cities and subjugate or otherwise exploit their lands or else the (communists/terrorists/heathens) win." - Jesus.

"the Law" is Natural Law and is present (by its nature, heh) in every successful civilization in recorded history (in analogous forms)

Of course certain pagan matriarchal and anarchic tribal configurations existed in obscure corners of history, but largely festering in their own filth

Gnosticism is not christian because it denies a very simple fact that all christians accept. Namely, that God died on the cross. Gnostics missed the inherent joke and ridiculousness of christianity and unstead retreated to a pessimistic, neo-platonic mysticism.

someone has to say it. What jesus was alleged to have said is in complete contradiction to the behavior of the majority of christians. It's obscenely obvious. How do you reconcile going to church and believing that the bible is sacred with all the violence and terror and bigotry that going to church and believing the bible is sacred has caused? If OP hadn't used that pic when he started this thread I would have probably ignored it like I usually do with bibel threads. I guess I feel aversion to christianity and don't want /lit/ to become some sort of christian version of r/atheism. Plus I can post wherever I want. "But it's literature related!" If talking about the bible on 4chan is literature related how come there's never any threads about all the other religious literature and just a bunch of christfag threads? It's like when ASOIAF was big.

It's as Christian as the rest of it, and only considered heresy for its losing out to the other heresies. There is no one interpretable church and there never will be.
