5926772 No.5926772[DELETED]  [Reply] [Original]

I made the mistake of telling my girlfriend that I like to read. In her new campaign to have more 'common interests' (read: me adopt her interests), she is relentlessly hounding me about reading visual novels. Apparently it was not enough to suffer through Homestuck. Are there any decent visual novels? I am not optimistic about this.

Visuals novels are /jp/ not /lit/.
There are plenty of good ones but almost all translations are bad.
They are not books so don't expect them to be at all similar ("visual novel" is a misnomer and not even what the creators of the games call them).

G Senjou no Maou (Great story, if you don't cry at the ending scene you are confirmed for being an autist or not human).
Utawarerumono (Decent story + gameplay)
Steins;Gate (A+ story, might need to be into anime to really like it though).
Eien no Aselia (Okay story, somewhat fun gameplay)
Shikkoku no Sharnoth, Seiken no Ignanock (pretty fun little stories, kind of hipster though).

Those should get you started OP. I'd recommend reading G-Senjou first though, it's the most accessible for normalfags and pretty good.

Getting back to the topic, /a/ or /jp/ would be a better place to ask, but I can give some recommendations. Anything by the studio Visual Arts Key is incredibly well-written and well-acted and emotionally involving. Their best stuff is Little Busters and Rewrite.

I'm willing to admit that the writing in key-novels is engaging and fun, but don't pretend that it is well written.

>incredibly well-written
I'm willing to admit that the writing in key-novels is engaging and fun on a superficial level, but many of the characters are lazy trope-ridden stereotypes, and the way they intereact with eachother is so cliche and shallow that I wouldn't even want to call the overall quality of writing decent, let alone incredible.

Also:
>Their best stuff is Little Busters and Rewrite.
>Little Busters
Nigga what are you doing?

There are no well written visual novels. Some of them are very good as video games, like Phoenix Wright, but none of them are good for quality reading material.
