Yes. Garnett was a contemporary of Dostoevsky and her translation is much more faithful to the Russian test. P&V's translation takes a lot more liberty, and changes the feel. I remember Boris Pasternak's daughter HATED the P&V translation as it was nothing like Pasternak's original feel- and style-wise.
