Ignorant savages. This is why white people should still have extra-territorial rights.

tbf, most people on this board have no life experience of any kind and could do with some.

What can a 20-something who's entire life experience is school and the inside of their bedroom possibly have to say?

I don't think that's entirely fair - look at Kant. It's certainly condusive to travel and explore but I've also met people who have travelled more than me who have even less to say and seem to have put no thought into that experience.

That is a strange attitude, first of all a lot of those places rely on tourism.

Almost everybody does, you'd probably have to be in the realms of pychopathy to not feel something when you see the little street urchin making a feeding gesture towards you. However, as is the way of the world there is only so much you can do - or do you mean to tell me you rehabilitate every homeless person you see on the street and so on.

I'm not saying you should necessarily save up to travel round asia but I dont' think what you're feeling has anything to with Catholism but more to do with being a normal human in the west.

>> No.6678241

Well, obviously travel doesn't matter that much in terms of writing. I'd also say that I've never written about the time I worked a terrible job in retail or in a kitchen.

I think what is key is being observant and knowing how to extrapolate drama and insight from the world around you. You live somewhere so you should be able to say something interesting about it - no matter your life experience. It's true you need context to understand some things (otherwise you wouldn't know why they are interesting) but it's not something you need to seek out. If you're a good writer there's no requirement for special experiences.

My life experiences come into my writing and I know some of it might have limited appeal to some people but the way I see it, is that I have my point of view. For example I can write about fatherhood from the point of view of a child. I don't need to have had children to write something compelling about family. For every experience you don't have there is an experience you do have: like writing about having money or writing about having none.

Then of course if you are observant and a good writer you can take the ideas from your experiences (about loyalty, power, family, love, identity etc.) and use them in fictional settings.
