How much alcohol do you /lit/fags drink? is alcohol necessary for being a writer?

I drink almost every day.

Alcohol is disgusting. Tea, loose leaf, is the Patrician's choice.

After graduating high school I fell heavily into religious philosophy, started doing a huge quantity of drugs, ended up reading a lot of Bukowski, Hunter S. Thompson, Hemingway, etc., and romanticizing alcoholism and addiction because I was addicted, I identified, and I thought I was a special snowflake. "If I am the gifted genius I know I am," I reasoned, "I can live on this chemical diet and sleepless schedule and still produce high quality work. In fact, my discomfort and the altered mental state provides me with my flame!"

I was fucking wrong. I was a child coming to terms with reality. Getting clean, I find my mind works much better than it ever did when inundated with amphetamine and alcohol. I was always intelligent, and I was actively holding myself back through reckless, wanton idealization of deeply unhappy, unsatisfied people.

The only thing that is necessary to be a writer, man, is to write. Do not hold yourself to others, because they are not you and are often wrong, often wrong about themselves.

That being said, I still indulge in intoxication on a not-infrequent basis. I simply no longer labor under the delusion that I'm doing myself any favors.

I can't drink alcohol because it lowers the seizure threshold and mixes badly with all three of my antiepileptic medications.

I'm going to assume it isn't necessary for writing, because otherwise I'm fucked.

Most twenty-somethings I know drink at least a beer a day. I like to get reading done at the pub (here now) after classes. Coincidentally ran into the professor im doing reading for.

Nothing wrong with alcohol as long as you don't abuse it or depend on it.

Ah, im epileptic too, though im sure less severe. My heart goes out to you

>> No.7094295

Ive never really drank alcohol most of my fluid consumption consists of water tea and coffee

>> No.7094300

I don't because I spent my early 20s in an alcoholic haze. Amazed I could keep jobs down

>> No.7094306

Should I stop drinking? I feel like it disinhibits my creativity and productivity.

None. I don't really like the feel, and I really don't like what it does to other people. I don't think it's necessary at all. It helps some get past the barriers to writing, but there are other non-chemical ways to do that says the anon who can't get himself to write :-/

Yes. If you want some sort of substance, choose caffeine.

Once, I had 210 recorded seizures in 24 hours.

I think I've had 300+ before but they weren't recorded.

I'm amazed I'm still cognizant these days and not dead somewhere. I can't drive, though.

Ever considered severing the old corpus collosum? Given, it will certainly change your life but there are very dramatic surgeries (as im sure you know) that can alleviate the constant seizures. In some ways it will be better, some ways worse. What's your take on that?

Im really sorry, friend. I hate seizures. Gave me some serious social anxiety for a while

>> No.7094338

sugar and fasting/writing on an empty stomach just after waking could also be considered 'substances' for this purpose

surprised there are so few drinkers here

No but mine is rather mild (I blank out for minutes at a time, do things I don't remember, and have a few grand mal seizures a year) and I can't speak for more severe epileptics

I don't enjoy alcohol whatsoever except for the way it makes me better at socializing and sex, and even then more than three or four drinks in an evening isn't fun anymore. I'm a pretty big guy and binge drank like a pro in college but I just realized I didn't like it very much.
