Has anyone read this? What am I in for? I read only two other positions from Bulgakov, but I heard it's unlike his later style.

I read the first couple of chapters in Russian, couldn't stand the style so I just stopped there. Might pick it up in the future again.

Honestly it looks promising, but Bulgakov narrates the action switching between present and past tense what annoys me incredibly.

I don't even remember what exactly pissed me off so much. The prose just felt very clunky, not fluid at all.

I read it a couple of weeks ago its ok but its subpar to the rest of his stuff, it just feels like it has too narrow a scope imo.
