Anything by Hamsun, though I'd personally recommend his work from youth first (Hunger, Pan, Victoria, Mysteries) followed by Growth of the Soil.

Ibsen, esp. Hedda Gabler, A Doll's House and Peer Gynt

Bjornstjerne Bjornson is also worth checking out, unfortunately I've read very little of him.

Knausgård for popular contemporary Norwegian literature with some merit.

Danish:

Johannes V. Jensen - unfortunately very few works translated to English. But Fall of the King is pretty great.

Henrik Pontoppidan - Lykke-Peer. Probably one of the GOAT coming of age novels.

Tom Kristensen - Havoc. Get the oldest translation you can find. The rights was recently bought by a British banker who did the translation alone, and, according to himself, changed passages he didn't like or cut them out entirely. Fucking travesty.

H.C. Andersen for meme points. He's fine but vastly overrated.

Kierkegaard for real street credit. Either/Or, Fear and Trembling, Repetition, The Concept of Anxiety, Stages on Life's Way and Sickness unto Death.

Swedish:

Everything by Strindberg. I don't really know any Swedish literature beyond that.

If you look at the Netherlands for example, which experienced a surge of workers in the 60´s, very proper and thorough going immigration was achieved. This being possible even though the Turks were still retaining their own culture in their own household.

That being said, it is a nuanced problem, and a yes or no reasoning isn´t going to do it any good.
