I never mention I read to anyone, because it inevitably leads to conversations about Stephen King, G.R.R. Martin, etc. Having once made the mistake of shitting all over said authors I now know not to engage plebs in literary conversation. To dislike Stephen King is to dislike reading itself in their eyes. I've been told that new books are better in every way than old ones, which are impossible to enjoy and can only have historical value.

I had to patiently explain the concept of an anthology to a legitimately lightly retarded coworker. This person is retarded in a very specific way I've never run into before - he seems to know a large amount of trivia (mostly factoids), but even then it's all been scrambled before sticking to his long term memory so everything he exclaims is off in some bizarre way. Any remotely uncommon word is likely to be scrambled as well, for example he was referring to "monocles" as "morlocks" in a discussion I had trouble following initially.

The Vedas are one of the earliest text in any indo-euro language. They are the cultural product of a group of Aryans who settled in India. The Vedas themselves recount the story of the Aryans migration southward into India and the battles and events that happen along the way.

What's more - the astronomical descriptions given in the Vedas describe what you would see if you lived in the arctic circle close to the north pole, while the Vedas probably were not composed while the Aryans were living there, they likely are the product of a people who lived there and migrated south into the Caspian/Black sea region and from there to India.

What an odd thing to say. And it's laughably ridiculous when scrutinized for even a moment:

Young film students these days can't even list films from the 70s that they enjoy without being a hack? We're not even talking black and white foreign arthouse from the 50s or anything, but not even popular color movies from 70s Hollywood?

Do you always talk this much stupid bullshit?

I don't think I ever regarded anything as the 'peak of film' but I certainly used to prefer watching older movies. Maybe I'm biased but I kind of liked that period because it gave me a chance to watch things well outside of my comfort zone, which was important for developing sound knowledge and appreciation of film as a whole. These days, I'll watch almost anything because the joy comes from being able to respond to things for what they are. It's the same with literature.

Okay not you personally, just a general disregard for those who fawn over films and directors as "genius" despite their experimentation has now shifted into a mainstream, then they diregard those films as hogwash compared to the original. Such as Godard, Breathless was a new way of editing and denziens of film studies will always praise him. But when a director such as Edgar Wright uses a similar technique or editing style hes clearly a "hack". I get that watching oldef films is fine, it absolutely is, especially with the never ending paint by numbers superhero films.

I sometimes experience the exact same sensation, I believe it's the consequence of having a high verbal IQ combined with an observant personality.

Personally, I recommend studying eastern philosophy, in particular Hinduism. Studying the Hindu texts and employing them has allowed me to become better at dissolving into and becoming one with the universe and when I'm in that state I don't even contemplate the possibility of having enmity for another person. It's way more blissful to live life like that and to go to social events in that mindstate than to constantly have my mind occupied with the feeling that I'm surrounded by retards.

Just because you've never experienced that same sensation that the poster described does not at all mean that it's a "non-issue". For some people that sensation is both common and annoying.

Following the advice I gave would not constitue "using Hinduism as a crutch" but would just be the act of trying the employ hinduism's teachings in everyday life.

I told him more or less to try to feel at one with the universe, to feel kinder towards others, to be less egotistical, etc. Whoh is all great advice anyway, Hindu or not. Of course you probably already know all thia anyway but chose to react poorly to my post for your own reasons, which I can't help you with

>Not him but I think that you're attempting to change the prejudice you have with certain people so that it doesn't come across as judgmental and egocentric, but have you understood why you feel this sensation in the first place?

I didn't literally mean feeling as though I was surrounded by retards, that was my short-hand way of referring to the sensation that poster experienced of having felt as though he were an anthropologist studying chimpanzee social dynamics. While certainty judgmental, this is not in itself an egocentric thing to think if one is simply observing a phenomenon and accurately judging it as such. A perceptive person can observe exactly what that poster described without any question of their ego entering into the equation. The fact that someone would perceive such a thing does not inherently signify anything about a person other then that they are observant and have a good reading of social situations.

Employing the Hindu doctrines in day-to-day life and in everyday social interactions consists not so much of changing your prejudices as it does of learning to enter into a metaphysical or transcendental, state full of bliss where your prejudices are shed the moment you enter into it.

>Under what assumptions has this continually arisen? Do you really think you're so much smarter than these people when you can't even engage them?

That observation has not "arisen under assumptions" (insinuations there indeed lol) but has rather just been something I've witnessed at times before in my life. In many cases yes I do think that I am smarter than some of these people. Nowhere did I imply that I am somehow unable to engage these people, the poster who originally described the sensation didn't even write that himself, that was a judgement of him made by you that you mistakenly thought applied equally to me.

Anon you're all replying to here.

Shit, this thread is ">Co-workers are talking about books", what's the point if not to reach out and connect with other miserable introverts.

Hell, the main reason I even come to 4chan is so I can be an unlikable prick in company of the same.

I've seen posts calling Hitler a great guy and calling for genocide get nothing but a few replies of agreement, but this is what triggers you redditors? The idea of some friendless asshole silently judging you?

I can't even open my mouth without douchbags loudly judging me to my face.

The worst part is if I swallowed my pride and told some story about having sex (making sure to call the girl a hoe), made some mean spirited racist joke about whatever minority is currently being kicked while they're down, or just described some epic meme picture I'd seen on facebook, everyone would think I'm a stellar guy.

And of course you all find forced bullshit like >>9680835 hilarious. "LMAO WOLF DICK BRAH" "This is going on r/4chan for sure my dude". Only goes to show how much the average age here has dropped over the years.

Leaving aside that you shamelessly same-fagged in reply to your post afterwards, You are the one in error; you are foolishly confusing the meaning of the word eloquence.

The word has nothing to do with being pedantic or show-boating. The actual meaning of the word connotes someone who is proficient at speaking clearly and lucidly.

I effectively asked you to speak in a way so as to best communicate the essence of what you see as the truth but in your ego-games and insecurities you projected and misinterpreted what I was writing as some kind of peacock display instead of me being curious and genuinely wanting to be humored.

I know that anon ITT feel like outsiders and I know that's a really difficult situation for any person to work through but choosing to entertain these pretentious grandiose notions and looking down on every other person that they secretly feel jilted by as a coping mechanism is only going to make it harder for them to reach the other side and find some stability and happiness. The second they throw that pretentiousness to the ground and pass it by half the work is already done.

>Or maybe they do.
I hope no one genuinely does, but it's definitely a notion a lot of egg flinging in a lot of different threads is derived from. It's just the really tried self-hate, success through self-torture, thing.
>but choosing to entertain these pretentious grandiose notions and looking down on every other person that they secretly feel jilted by as a coping mechanism is only going to make it harder for them to reach the other side
It's absolutely true, but the secret door option is finding a way to express those suspicions rather than entertain or suppress them. This is hard because it takes a lot of confidence, but that's how it is. fitlit was unique because the board merging actually opened up the conversation to this problem. I went on /fit/ a couple times recently and they still talk about it lol, and it makes sense why. They loved being useful. Anyway the point is the correlation between meat physics, confidence and mom what is this ego and where do I put it

The number of films created before film students were born is significantly larger than the number of films created while they were born, so it'd in fact be even more stupid if they only liked stuff from their time.

/fitlit/ pretty much confirmed that both board's have image problems. It's sad and I mean that in a sympathetic way. This place becomes like a self-help forum at times.

I didn't say they were mutually exclusive. Whoever posted that tried to tell a story which failed to create interest and then went on to be insulted right in front of his face. Somehow, to you, this shows that he's "proficient at language," yet he couldn't use language to tell a good story. Still, you want to stress that this is a matter of intelligence. Everyone fucking knows that many people live radically different lives and have different concerns, that some people are stupid, but do you want to know the difference between a childish autist and a mature individual? The former will be quick to turn the matter into one of intelligence and assume they're more skilled/have a higher IQ, but the latter won't assume/expect anything, especially this idea that you know more, which is probably the worst assumption you can make. Get over yourself already.

>miserable introvert

Another way of saying "I don't know how to talk to people." Trust me, I've been there. Protip: you have a body too, you can't live your life in the comfort of your own head. Once you stop giving a fuck about distinctions and start connecting with and trying to appreciate everyone, you'll know what I mean. It's the mark of liberation.

I graduated from University, studied a lot of philosophy--do you think my working class parents give a fuck about some book I read after their 8 hour shift? They watch TV every night, but I love them and I've got to find some way to talk them. Love requires patience, you should try it sometime.

I don't know why you are trying to imply that guy who told the story somehow is not proficient at language. It sounded to me like they were talking about pleb shit and ten went right back to it after he was done.

The failure of someone who is intelligent, well-read, articulate etc to fit in with plebs is not itself a great indication of how their social skills and language are. You could have a situation where you have the most brilliant and erudite person with impeccable socials skills who spends most of their around similar people but on one occasion goes to hang with a bunch of plebs but is bored by the conversation and not interested in any of the people there and so they are not as talkative. That would not mean they have bad social skills, that's just when one person finds another or others to be uninteresting, it's a basic fact of life and not a character flaw.

In the story he literally said they were having a low-brow conversation and that two differant guys starting to make rambling reaponses simultaneously to random shit this girl was saying because they wanted to fuck her. How much more obvious does it need to be that they weren't especially bright?

Fuck egalitarianism

Do you mean proficient with language? You're so convinced of your intelligence that you've twice overlooked a simple grammatical mistake.

Reread his and my post. Again, clearly stupid people exist and you don't have to dumb yourself down to be around them, but if you have trouble engaging "low-brow" people then the problem is with you and not them. One of my philosophy professors, who has a PhD unlike you, can talk to the plebs in my classes no problem; he's written a 200 page+ dissertation and is getting a book published, but he doesn't hold himself up in some imaginary tower of erudition and intellectualism. He talks to people, because that's part of life--and guess what, most people you meet aren't going to be world class scholars, but you can learn something from everyone. Until you learn this you'll be justifying your pathetic "introversion" for your entire life.
