Do you guys ever rent books from librarys or do you prefer to buy your own copy?

I like having my own copies of my books because I enjoy underlining sentences I like and squaring words I'm not familiar with and really just writing in them. Plus I have a sort of record of books I've read and can go back to to read sections out of to friends.

I use my school´s library when I need the books to work on essays or do research. If I actually want the book and I have the money, I buy it.

I only buy books if I've already read them, or are by an author I know I like.

I buy the book because I like having things.

It's called borrowing. Borrowing.

I like buying books because for some reason when I have to read on a deadline (whether from the library or school or even borrowing it from a friend) it makes me lose motivation to read. I don't know why this is, but I almost always never finish the book by the time I have to return it.

When I'm at school, I use the college library. When its summer and I'm at home, I'll buy books either at a used bookstore or, if that did have what I wanted, Borders

I've been spending a lot of time thinking whether or not I want to support the American need to own things or not. In some cases it's nice to own a book I know I'm not going to finish in 3 weeks or that I know I won't refer back to. However most of the stuff I tend to read is actual literature so "replay value" is there and I've no doubt someone'll bring it up in the future.

Plus I actually read living writers (wut is living?) in which case the libraries often don't have say the new David Mitchell novel immediately upon release.

i write in library books because everybody else already does

When I think about a book I borrowed from the library enough that I want to reference it or refresh my memory on certain parts I know it's time to look for a used copy around somewhere

Yup. Pretty much.

I obsessively buy books. I accumulate them and I haven't read half of what I own.

For example, I bought two books three days ago and I really want to buy one or two other tomorrow.

This. I plan on reading every one of them, but I just keep buying. I have stacks and stacks.

What the fuck does Anthony Kiedis have to do with this?
