Set yourself a goal. Pages, books read, time spent reading, whatever. If you fail to meet it force yourself off of other passtimes until you recoup that time in reading.

There's nothing that says you can't be a lazy piece of shit and commit to reading at the same time. You just have to find that balance, because reading in and of itself in this scenario is more than likely a recreational activity. If you don't enjoy it in the first place perhaps it's not for you.

Study Hegel's lectures on aesthetics and realize all the literary art you leave lying around are noble incarnations of the universal mind-spirit, and should be honored akin to scripture

How long will it take until I get to the point where I can remember what I have read and actually retain some of the information. I mean I only read history books and stuff at the moment and hate reading a book then later one forgetting it.

Well I can't help you much there, sorry. If you're truly religious there's definitely a lot you could read about church history, lurk the recommendations threads for a collage, I'm sure someone has one.
History is easy to get into if the single way to get into it works for you. You have to start small. Absolutely don't do what I did and many others do and start with a general "History of Rome" or "History of Japan". Start with a person like Caesar or something. Whoever you personally find interesting. That helps you get a foothold in the topic, then you can expand into the general stuff to find even more you'd like to read about.

No one actually reads anything.

I'd recommend absorbing highly-regarded reading lists and opinions to learn which books you should have notched in your belt, then read the Wikipedia summary & analysis so that you can appear to have read the book, without actually going to the effort.

Andy tells me you should lay off the anime. Every time you get the urge to watch an episode of Digimon or Samurai Bebop or whatever else you weebs in 2017 are into, displace the thought by turning to a book instead.

I became an avid reader like three months ago and I can't stop. I stopped watching tv and I don't spend much time on 4chan anymore.

Here's how I did it.

-Remember the average person reads like zero books a year. If you read 5 pages a day, you are 5 pages above the average person

-Don't force yourself to read. Commit to read 5 pages a day. I swear after three days you'll feel like reading more and after a month or so you should be reading 50-100 pages a day for pleasure

-Read various books at the same time. When I grab a difficult book or one that makes me sleepy I grab another and switch. This should refresh your head. Keep them thematically different. I read economics and fiction.

-It isn't a race. Reading slowly won't make you sleepy that fast. Try to acknowledge what books are for you to read fast and which aren't.

-Buy the physical copies. When you get the books from your own money you'll feel the need to read them to avoid the feel of wasting your money.

-Start with books highly discussed here so you feel motivated to discuss.

By an old 2006 style phone.
Go outside/cafe/place where you can sit and not be cold; with a book.
