What am I in for? I just bought these on a whim because the prose looked good. I have a good grounding in history from childhood autism, but is there any pre reading that would better the experience?

Shatters linear history
Knowledge of the ancient world is ever-helpful as always
You can always fill-in the gaps later
This work may usefully expose some of these

Nietzsche, Kant, Aristotle, Plato, Descartes, Euclid, Pythagoras, Masters of the Baroque and Rennaisance, Art history, music theory, strong understanding of calculus and algebra, Schopenhauer, Spencer and Darwin, basic grasp of Vedic, MENA and European religion and then Wagner, Holderlin, Goethe all the faggots of the continent

I read Imperium before Decline. It's largely based on the conclusions of Decline, but he does some explaining so there's a foundation. Might give it a try, then just re-read it after Decline.

Having a knowledge of History will definitely help. Tonybee's History of Civilization is along the same lines as Decline, but it provides the data necessary for drawing conclusions (it's like 12 books). A bit much just to prepare for Decline, but it may be useful.

Also: On Heroes, Hero-Worship, and The Heroic in History by Carlyle is a good primer.

This op.
Spengler is quite the experience and because of his main points is the symbolic nature of everything he quite literally interprets everything. Also, focus on his example of Homology, it's a really useful example he makes and it creates a clearer picture of his "organic" great-cultures.

Is Imperium worth reading?

It's alright.
If you are interested in Yockey, there's a really great biography of him. It's very wide-ranging. It touches on all sorts of stuff.

Thanks, thats what I was looking for, I really just need the music theory; but at the same time I'm thinking of maybe putting this off for a couple years to get more out of it since I'll be studying more Classical art and history anyway.

I just started reading Decline. His ideas about cultural souls, analysis via morphology, and analyzing history in cultures are brilliant, and 100% correct. His relativism and and ontology are less secure in my opinion, but sufficient for his analysis.

>>10642973
definitely this, I was shocked by his sheer grasp of EVERYTHING, it's astounding to say the least.

How is that? I was eyeing the abridged version, is it an interpretation like Spengler or an encyclopedia type chronology?

I liked it. Maybe I don't totally agree that The West is tending towards NatSoc, but towards Authority I can see a little easier.

If yall are interested, Augustus Sol Invictus says he's writing a spiritual successor to Imperium, in the same way Imperium was a successor to Decline. Not out yet though and probably won't be for at least a year, if not more. I'm gonna keep my eyes open for it though.

It's more like an encyclopedia of civilizations through history. Also, I was wrong, it's called A Study of History. It was published after Decline, so it's possible he was reinforcing Decline, but I think he was doing his own thing.

He does some interpreting in that he tries to pin down how civilizations work, but nothing like Decline. Reminded me more of The Fate of Empires than Decline. (Fate is, I would say, a middle ground between the two)

I think I might just read that first because I've heard a couple good things about it, hopefully the prose is good
