Hey /lit/ I need to run something by you.

I'm taking a creative writing class in college and am required to write a ten page story this weekend.

We are to write stories that aren't cliches and hackneyed and not just some concept you got from a movie, like something you would read in well developed piece of literature. No zombies, outer space bullshit.

I was wondering if I could pitch my ideas to you guys and see what you think? Some kids in my class are gonna write about a fuckin hiest, and the other some time lapse pyscho guy story which is probably gonna be like fight club.

like it needs to be about real life conflict and stuff, man vs self, man vs nature, and man vs man

The cat finds out that he's alone in the house, and there are no noises from the street. After the food runs out, he has to escape, probably jumping through the window. The sun is red. There are no people. As days go by the cat interacts with street cats for the first time. It fucks/gets fucked. It looks for food. The sun keeps getting bigger and bigger, in an intense red. The cat dies of inanition.

There is this dude who has been chilling in this apartment with his woman and there are 2 buds that always come over and they all smoke weed and essentially grow it in a closet in the apartment in hopes of making money, but i won't dwell too much on this aspect and if i do it will be shedding light on the effects of people doing it in an unbiased light. Everyone is essentially a leech, the dude living there for practically free cause he doesnt make that much money at his job as a fill in janitor for 10 bours a week at a restaurant while his woman is the essentially a manager at the job there. The friends pay money for weed sometimes but mostly its the bitch doing it, the dude doesn't really say anything and spends the day taking care of the weed.

Anyway the bitch leaves for a week to go to LA to go to the funeral of her dead rich grandma's funeral who pretty much pays for her families everything. She then is gone for another week saying she's in san fransisco with her girl friend that lives inn another state
The dude is just thinking about his life and how his family is poor and just how his relationship is dependent on her and its falling apart because she isn't his answering phone calls and avoiding him at all cost, just stressed at where todays society puts one in who has no money, where it places the average citizen.

because at the end the woman has been cheating on him with some drug dealer whos friends with these fucked up people and one night while drinking he tries to choke her but is too disgusted at himself so he slams his head into a bathtub cuz at that point he realizes he's lost control and then has to be taken to the hospital cuz he's bleeding a bunch

The bones of the story (a slacking guy realizes that he's losing his more successful girlfriend) isn't terrible. But having drugs all over the place (they all sit around and smoke weed, she's cheating with a drug dealer) is stupid and pedantic.

I'd say make your protagonist more reasonable (that "bathtub" thing is right out), have him realize he's losing her, and realize he has to change. He loses her anyway, but it gives him the spark he needs to change.

Why would she leave her shitty, slacking, generally "below her" boyfriend for a drug dealer? Why do that drug dealer's stupid friends even matter to this story? And what the fuck are you even trying to get at with, "where todays society puts one in who has no money, where it places the average citizen."?
