how do i become the next tao lin. i wanna market the alt-lit scene to the gen-z kids who never heard of him.

Nice try, Tao. Okay... I will buy your new book. You're so transparent.

I actually thought about this quite a lot myself, because it seems like the gen z kids are either only into YA genre fiction etc or not into books/literature at all, which is definitely untrue, but we'll have to wait since the oldest of gen z are only starting uni.

maybe some anon doing an undergrad in english lit or mfa can chime in.

I'm 19 if that counts.
Tao Lin is a faggot and I don't read books written by chinks. Literature has of course been passed over for electronic mediums by many my age, but they are the sort who most likely wouldn't be able to read at all if they were born a hundred or two years ago. Chicks will continue to read YA and Jane Austen until the end of time. Appreciation of literature will live on for as long as the written word remains, continued by the small subset of the population with the ability and inclination to understand it. I'd do a literature degree if I weren't crippled with anxiety and indecision over the future at the moment.

he's a (really good actually) author who everyone identifies with the "alt lit scene" of the 2000s. he tried really hard to market himself as a cool outsider before 2010, but since then, has (for the most part) mostly kept to himself and changed his focus and lifestyle. his new book, trip, is legitimately very good

He used to be active on /lit/, and he probably still is

I'm actually a fan of Tao (own all his books and have read most of them multiple times) but didn't like Trip. What did you like about it? I think I'll like "Leave Society" a lot more. I hope he sticks with that title by the way. I was really disappointed when he decided to change "Beyond Existentialism" to "Trip".

Honestly, I do think there's an interesting book to be written about a generation of disaffected people aimlessly browsing social media/internet without purpose whilst abusing pharmaceuticals or pain killers. Tapei is probably the closest novel to touch on this and could have earned a serious reputation if the book wasn't packaged in the author's conceits.

>market the alt-lit scene to the gen-z kids

And you think these "markets" are introduced new products through mass exposure? Oh man, the truth is so anti the sentiments of your work that the whole operation is itself something I'd love to be a part of just for the dissonance and absurdity. It's so hypocritical, the works can never recover from their introduction into the market. Hahaha. Oh the form, the form, man, hahaha, oh the form.

If Tao actually got to reading some Mexicans and figured out this new writing paradigm, he probably have himself a good day making some new plans for interjecting meaning into the all-meaningful mightiness like a Russian state sponsored public service announcement that helps people get ripped and flourish like Texmex stem majors bordering on insanity and mutually assured construction.

Hello, Vince

Yeah, ask him why he stole this writer's cover for 'Taipei.'

Here's the backstory.

The author of this novel:

https://www.amazon.com/Huckleberry-Milton-Mr-Bradley-J/dp/1463601409/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1525489519&sr=1-1&dpID=51BMpxspzUL&preST=_SY291_BO1,204,203,200_QL40_&dpSrc=detail

wrote Tao Lin to ask if he'd write a blurb for it.

Tao Lin declined.

Then 'Taipei' appears, and it looks like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Taipei-Vintage-Contemporaries-Tao-Lin/dp/0307950174/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1525489672&sr=1-1&keywords=taipei+tao+lin&dpID=51P92xL4aNL&preST=_SY291_BO1,204,203,200_QL40_&dpSrc=srch
What people should is this:

Buy that other guy's book and ask Tao Lin to sign the cover.
