AWWW SHIT MOTHERFUCKERS.
THIS IS THE MOTHERFUCKING BOOK CLUB.

Let me run through the rules again for you faggots.

You have 3 options of books to read.

1)Neckbeard Mode: Genre/Contemporary book
2)Hipster Mode: Classic
3)Illiterate Mode: Short Story/Essay
[Are you a bad enough dude to read all 3?]

Books will be assigned every SUNDAY night.
You have 1 week to read the book, we will discuss the book on SUNDAY aswell.

Books should be roughly 500 pages. No War and Peace.
The wildcard(illiterate mode) is a short story/essay for those who dont have time to read a whole book.

This thread is for discussing what books we will be reading. The official first thread(first two dont count) will start tomorrow.

While this thread is for discussing what we will be reading the final decision belongs to me. If youve got a problem with that you can just DEAL WITH IT.

>> No.1119885

God damnit, this is exactly how you fucked it up last time.

Fucking decide on the books yourself. Post saying "This is what we're reading. Don't like it? Too fucking bad".

Nobody will agree on what to read, you have to decide for these retards.

>> No.1119887

>Essay

So Schopenhauer's 'On Genius' essay and his other essays are in the realm of the illiterate?

Myopic idiocy.

>> No.1119891

Contemporary: Franny and Zooey. I know it's not 500 pages, but wtf, you should start out with an easy one.
Classic: Finnegans Wake!
I will not respond to the other categories, as I am not a faggot.

I would but this is all spur of the moment.

This is an excellent point. Please tell me what to do. Or, just give us two options for each, so we feel like we're deciding something.

No I meant category 3 would change weekly. The longer ones monthly. That way the faster readers could maybe stick to the weekly one, slower monthly?

You could maybe even group the categories according to length rather than genre by I'd find that less enjoyable myself.

The problem of anonymity aside (that could be pretty easily fixed by just requiring a trip for the bookclub), we'd inevitably get a bunch of people who would use their turn to be like, "TWILIGHT DURR HURR" or "ATLAS SHRUGGED, DOHOHO." We could always just veto that, but of course that would open the door to vetoing anything that people just don't want to read for whatever reason.

What ought to happen is that CW just goes through this particular thread, collecting ideas in order (one per poster per rotation through the list), then post threads on the /book/ text board. 2 weeks is so much better than 1 week (except in the case of short books/stories), but keep the time frame variable (in the event of long works). Threads can just pop up here as they will, and people who are interested/involved can post/make threads as they see them (or want to).

People would forget over a month's time. If you can't get to a library and read a sub-500 page book in a week, then I don't know what to say. Once the stories are chosen, we could post an electronic version for those who have trouble finding an actual copy. I have that 7000-book download that was posted on here a few months back, plus around 20,000 fantasy and sci-fi novels in PDF.

My library has self-checkout things so nobody has to know.
Bookstores? If it is a true book store, they shouldn't care. If it is a Borders or B&N, they probably get 3 college aged kids a week buying Lolita for school.
You could also buy online or even torrent.

I just finished Hyperion and I liked it a lot. I wouldn't mind having to something he did earlier. I also wouldn't mind Lolita. I managed to catch the last half of the black and white film years ago and although I've already got half of the plot spoiled for me I still don't know what happened at the start.

I pretty much second your list.

>> No.1121518

>>1121397
Lolita actually isn't that terrible, the prose is excellent, but the plot is a little slow and at times boring. Plus there really is nothing engaging about the work, it's just very aesthetically-written and if you're an aficionado of French culture you'll appreciate the allusions and French phrases thrown in throughout.
